It’s probably the sign of a pretty exclusive luxury vehicle when you’ve never even heard of the make of car and that’s the situation we find ourselves in with this spectacular 1952 Frazer Nash Targa Florio that is going under the hammer with RM Sotheby’s. Unquestionably, one of the finest British sports cars of the early 1950s, this amazing lot is one of just ten Targa Florio Mk1s ever produced.
With a hefty guide price just shy of £500k, this breathtaking machine certainly doesn’t come cheap but it is going to be one of the most sought-after lots amongst serious classic car collectors out there. The 1952 Frazer Nash Targa Florio was ordered new by Briggs Cunningham and displayed by Frazer Nash at the 1952 Earls Court Motor Show and it has been raced by Charles Moran and John Gordon Bennett.
It is presented with its matching-numbers engine and original body and it has been fully restored by Nick Finburgh of Classic Autos so is presented in remarkably good condition. Not only was it recently raced at the Goodwood Revival and Members’ Meeting but was also shown at the Concours of Elegance at Hampton Court, and toured on the Bassano Rally.
Only a select few Frazer Nashes formed part of such as famous team as Cunningham, let alone took part in one of the major sports car races of the period. This highly original Targa Florio is presented with its original chassis, engine and body, and would make the ideal entrant for some of the finest events in the world from the Monaco Historique Grand Prix and Le Mans Classic to the Copperstate 1000. You’ll just need deep pockets if you want to make it yours.
