Owning a classic Porsche is something that most men will aspire to and, if they had to pick one, it would doubtless be something along the lines of this stunning 1958 Porsche 356A Cabriolet which is going under the hammer with Bring A Trailer. Positively overflowing with old school cool, this majestic looking machine underwent a mid-2000s refurbishment and has done just 83k which, considering it’s well over half a century old, is no mean feat.
The 1958 Porsche 356A Cabriolet from Bring A Trailer was delivered new to its first owner at a US Army post in Babenhausen, Germany. It went on to spend time in the Southwest US before being being taken off the road around 1980. It was then in storage for more than two decades, possibly in Denver, Colorado. Following this, a refurbishment was carried out from 2006 to 2011, and the car remained in the Denver area until the current owner’s acquisition three years ago and now it can be yours with current bidding at $101k.
Porsche Perfection
Seldom will you come across a Porsche of this age in such a fantastic condition and it’s not hard to see why bidding has already exceeded $100k on this lot. The original colour combination of black over light brown leatherette has been kept, as have the numbers-matching 1.6L flat-four and original four-speed manual transaxle. Some of the other stand out features of this breathtaking Porsche include a black soft top, chrome luggage rack, green-letter VDO instrumentation, and a Blaupunkt AM/FM radio.
The Reutter-built body of this 1958 Porsche 356A Cabriolet was refinished in the factory shade of Schwarz (5701) during the refurbishment, with the panels reportedly stripped to bare metal before the repaint. The black convertible top adds a real touch of class to proceedings and the luggage rack makes this vintage beauty a great choice for a road trip in 2021.
Steel 15″ wheels have been powder coated in silver and wear baby-moon hubcaps. In addition, Vredestein Sprint+ S80 tires are mounted all around, including on a matching spare which you’ll find secured in the front compartment. The four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes have been rebuilt during the refurbishment, with a dual-circuit master cylinder added at that time as well.
Breathtaking Interiors
The interior of this 1958 Porsche 356A are trimmed in tan vinyl, matching the Hellbraun upholstery listed on the Kardex. Tan squareweave carpeting is found in the footwells and sills, with black rubber mats covering the floors. The ivory-coloured, two-spoke steering wheel and dash knobs were redone during the refurbishment process and the Blaupunkt AM/FM radio is situated in the black-painted dash fascia.
Green-letter VDO instrumentation in the cabin includes a 120-mph speedometer and 6k-rpm tachometer, as well as a combination gauge for oil temperature and fuel level. There is such a pleasing old school aesthetic to the dashboard of this Porsche that we’re loving here at Coolector HQ. Got a spare $100k burning a hole in your pocket? You know what you need to do.
