1967 Aston Martin DB6 Saloon

There are some cars that are synonymous with the silver screen but few more so than the Aston Martin courtesy of a certain James Bond. It is the steeds from the 60s that are most recognisable when it comes to having 007 behind the wheel and you can get your hands on one courtesy of Laurent Auxietre and this, quite frankly stunning, 1967 Aston Martin DB6 Saloon which, as you’d expect, has the wallet scaring POA.

The 1967 Aston Martin DB6 Saloon from Laurent Auxietre has undergone a complete engine rebuild by RS Williams and is presented in a remarkably good condition considering the vehicle is over half a century old. The Aston Martin DB6 was first showcased at the London Motor Show in October 1965 as the successor to the famed DB5, and it is considered by all to be one of the very best grand tourers ever produced. And, now, could be yours.

Iconic Motoring

The DB6 from Aston Martin was powered along by a powerful four-litre, twin-cam, inline six-cylinder engine with an aluminium alloy block and a deep-breathing cross-flow head. It was conceived by first class engineer Tadek Marek, making it a genuine 140-mph automobile. It could also carry four adults effortlessly in enhanced seats set on its stretched 101.5-inch wheelbase chassis. A 22-gallon fuel tank offered impressive mileage for high-speed travel, while Armstrong Selectaride rear shock absorbers could be adjusted from the driver’s seat, compensating for the weight of the rear-seat passengers.

This Aston Martin DB6 Saloon from Laurent Auxietre rolled off the production line in 1967 and was then finished in Dubonnet Rosso with Black Connolly leather to the interior and equipped with Borg Wagner 3 speeds automatic transmission. Some of the non-standard features included power steering, chrome road wheels, heater rear screen, three ear hub caps, power aerial and safety belts. 3197/R’s first owner was Mr Martin Harvey Esq. of Luton in the UK and it will be maintained by the works until 1971.

Laurent Auxietre were able to track the recent history of this vehicle as far back as 2005 when it was then owned by Mr Lanni of Scotland. Back then Mr Lanni had the Aston Workshop to proceed with a thorough mechanical check up exceeding £10k in expenses. As of 2006 the car passed on to Mr Kevin Bedrooms, also from Scotland. Additional and extensive cosmetic and mechanical work were carried out by marque experts Classic Restoration Ltd of Perthshire at that time and the lot comes with a large array of records which confirm the maintenance carried out at that time.

Superior Aesthetics

The aesthetics of the iconic DB6 had an expected resemblance to the DB5, at least from the front, with the aerodynamic, competition-style covered headlights, but the DB6 had a taller roofline and a less steeply raked windshield included to offer an increased amount of headroom for the passengers of the vehicle.

A distinctive squared-off Kammback tail with an upswept spoiler lip was not unlike that of its rival, the Ferrari 275 GTB/4, and it helped to reduce the rear lift while also enhancing the high-speed handling of the DB6. A broad air scoop on the hood and a pair of air vents on the front fenders added to the striking visuals of this stunning steed.
