Whilst you’re likely aware that we’re more prone to writing about the likes of classic Porsches and Ferraris, there are plenty of other car makers out there who boast a glorious back catalogue of classic cars. Ford might not be your first thought in this regard but this amazing looking, retro-tastic 1970 Ford Fairlane 500 from Collecting Cars will put paid to that notion. This extraordinary looking machine has a current bid of just $12,500 Australian dollars on the auction platform so if you love classic cars and want to pick yourself up a bargain, look no further.
This 1970 Ford Fairlane 500 from Collecting Cars has done a lot of miles (hence the pretty low bid most likely) at just under 250k and the Australian-built classic Ford Fairlane 500 delivered a rare mix of luxury and performance to the nation’s roads. Under the hood is where you’ll find the 302ci (4.9-litre) Cleveland V8 engine, sending up to 220bhp and 300lb-ft to the rear wheels via a three-speed automatic transmission so it might be old but it still packs a punch.
Old School Aussie Awesomeness
Designed and built in Australia, and the final version of the original Z-series Fairlanes, the ZD model was released by Ford in November 1970 and, it’s fair to say, we’re absolutely loving its vintage style aesthetic here at The Coolector. The Fairlane 500 boasts the 302ci V8 engine, automatic transmission, power steering and power front disc brakes as standard equipment so it will offer a smooth ride for whoever is lucky enough to get their hands on it when the hammer goes down on this lot.
The 1970 Ford Fairline 500 from Collecting Cars (current bid of $12,500AUD) comes with timeless Silver paintwork that is complemented by the Lincoln Continental-inspired grille, vertically stacked headlights and revised tail light arrangement. The original interior of this classically cool car is complete with adjustable bucket seats, wood trim, heating and cooling, and the black-backed instrument cluster.
This glorious looking Ford ZD Fairlane 500 is a classic Australian vehicle that we’d not encountered before here at The Coolector and an icon of the locally produced luxury vehicle market in the antipodean country. It is powered by a tractable 302ci V8 and with a roomy and, dare we say, luxurious interior, the Fairlane was a favourite for its ability to cover long distances in comfort. Having been in storage for almost the last two decades, the vehicle is in a remarkably good condition, and could be driven as-is or treated to a complete restoration.
