There really is something about a vintage BMW that appeals to our sensibilities here at Coolector HQ and there is something in particular about this 1982 BMW Alpina B7 S Turbo that is going under the hammer with RM Sotheby’s that has them in overdrive. This is the 17th of only 60 four-door B7 S Turbos ever produced and it has had just three owners from new.
This 1982 BMW Alpina B7 S Turbo from RM Sotheby’s was delivered new to Japan and it is in remarkable condition given that it’s nearly four decades old. This awesome BMW Alpina B7 S Turbo boasts enough performance to demolish a Ferrari 308 GTB, courtesy of its 3.5-litre turbocharged straight six producing 330 bhp and 500 Nm of torque. If you’re after a vintage style BMW that doesn’t let you down from a performance perspective, this lot from RM Sotheby’s will be the one for you.
Old School Cool in Spades
Delivered new to Japan back in 1982, this spectacularly cool BMW looks just as good today (if not better) than when it first came off the production line. It was acquired by its third and current owner back in August of 2012, who has used the breathtaking machine sparingly in his home country of New Zealand. It presents incredibly well, with its Alpina Sapphire Blue paintwork still gleaming and its original interior in exemplary condition.
The 1982 BMW Alpina B7 S Turbo from RM Sotheby’s has benefitted from a recently undertaken restoration with specialist work to the turbo and fuel system and is is adorned with tags that bolster its history, evidencing services at the same Japanese specialist in 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004, and 2007 – with the car having done less than 4,000km since then. Service records confirm the low current odometer reading of just 118,200 kilometres.
If you’re looking for a compelling reason to add this 1982 BMW Alpina B7 S Turbo to your vintage car collection, look no further than the fact that it was once the fastest four-door automobile in the world. Well-kept B7 S Turbos are seldom seen on the market today, and this example would surely be a thrill to drive and be the crowning glory of any vintage car collection.
Devil in the Detail
There are so many great little design touches to this BMW that are distinctly 80s in nature and being from this golden age, that makes it appeal even more to us here at Coolector HQ. Everywhere you look with the 1982 BMW Alpina B7 S Turbo you’ll see a neat and striking piece of design or impactful aesthetic that adds to the appeal of this classic vehicle still further.
It is going under the hammer at RM Sotheby’s Paris auction in February so, if you’ve liked what you’ve seen, you’ll need to move quickly to make sure you’re the new lucky owner when the hammer eventually goes down. We’ve got a real penchant for classic BWM’s here at The Coolector and it’s incredibly rare to see one as unusual and in such a remarkable condition as this from RM Sotheby’s.
