Whilst, for the most part, we gravitate towards classic cars from the 50s, 60s and 70s here at The Coolector, we occasionally have our heads turned by more recent automotive entries like this spectacular 2005 Ford GT which is available to buy from German luxury car experts, Schaltkulisse. The original Ford GT40 will go down in history as one of the most iconic and successful American cars, winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans four years in a row. It only makes sense then that Ford would celebrate the peak of its motorsport history with an exceptional machine, not only commemorating the incredible Ford GT40 but also 100 years of Ford Motor Company.
First showcased in 2002, the concept GT40 was a real head-turner, and Ford started making the GT by the end of 2004. Interestingly, the cars would all start their life in Ohio and were completed at Ford’s SVT facility in Michigan. The GT was powered by an all-aluminium 5.4 litre V8 engine with a Lysholm twin-screw supercharger capable of producing 550 horsepower, and mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. There were four options available: painted racing stripes, lightweight BBS wheels, red brake calipers, and McIntosh stereo system. In total, just over 4,000 units were produced for the world so if you’re lucky enough to get your hands on one you’ll be in pretty exclusive company.
This sensational looking 2005 Ford GT from Schaltkulisse comes in the attractive colour combination of Centennial White with Blue racing stripes, and sporting three of the four available options: stereo, racing stripes, and lightweight BBS wheels. The car remained in Missouri until it was sold to the last owner in March of 2012, who had a residence in New York. He bought the car with 792 miles on the odometer and now it has just 2225 miles on the clock. The price tag of €389k makes it a touch prohibitive for most but if you’ve got deep pockets and a love of the world of automotive design, this one is hard to ignore.
Wonderfully presented, this GT was serviced by Hermann Schuler KG in May of 2014, and in April of 2020, when the car showed only 1,971 miles from new. Today, the car presents in an impeccable condition, in what can only be described as virtually new. The car comes delivered with its original manuals, invoices and documents, as well as its original car cover. This Ford GT represents a rare opportunity to acquire one of the most collectable vehicles of the last 20 years, in virtually new condition. It can be kept in a collection and enjoyed from time to time as it is still one of the great driver’s cars of the early 2000’s.
