It’s probably fair to say that after the year we’ve just had, we’re all looking to drown our sorrows a touch. Well, in order to do this in a Don Draper-esque style, you’ll need to ensure you’ve got a well-stocked drinks cabinet. Luckily, there is definitely no shortage of purveyors peddling rums, whisky, gins and vodkas so buckle up and check out our pick of 5 of the best spirit brands for your drinks cabinet this year below:
Brewdog Rogue Wave Vodka
Rogue Wave Vodka from the Brewdog Distillery is a single malt vodka in tribute to the cousin of James Watt, one of BrewDog’s Founders’, One-Armed Alex, a man you’ll never forget. When it comes to going rogue, One-Armed Alex wrote the book – once he learned to write again. With his good arm floating somewhere in the North Sea due to a freak fishing accident, Alex refused to be left swimming in circles, and instead dived headfirst into life. Distilled over 7 days, the vapour passes through the World’s first triple-bubble copper pot still, before it hits the 19-metre recification column – the higher it goes the more pure it gets. Extreme copper contact delivers an unparalleled quality, filtering just once, so the spirit keeps its soul. Crisp, clean, with understated notes of icing sugar and vanilla. Rogue Wave is a vodka you need to add to your 2021 line up.
Spirited Union Botanical Rum
Spirited Union only work with the freshest botanicals to make sure their selection of rums will always have a great, natural taste. Fruits are delivered to them whole and newly picked. They then cut, peel and juice everything in house right before their re-distillation and maceration process with their rum so they never lose crucial flavours or smells in the process. With an array of delicious sounding flavours to choose from – including our favourite Spice & Sea Salt – you’ll really knock your cocktails up a notch in 2021 by adding a few bottles of Spirited Union Botanical Rum to your drinks cabinet. Definitely comes recommended from us here at Coolector HQ.
Shackleton Blended Malt Scotch Whisky
Admittedly whisky is one of the hardest spirits we find to drink here at Coolector HQ but when it’s as smooth and flavour packed as Shackleton Blended Malt Scotch Whisky, it’s hard not to be won over. This great looking whisky is based on the spirit supplied to the 1907 British Antarctic Expedition, expertly crafted using a selection of the finest Highland Single Malt Scotch Whiskies. Inspired by one of the 20th century’s most charismatic leaders, Shackleton is a contemporary Scotch that embodies the spirit of a legend. Best enjoyed over ice.
Cambridge Dry Gin
We had to include a spirit from our own back yard in our list so that’s why Cambridge Dry Gin is in there (and the fact it tastes great to boot). Cambridge Dry Gin makes use of botanicals grown in and around their own home and they created a recipe which includes juniper, fresh basil, rosemary, angelica, lemon verbena, blackcurrant leaf and rose petals, each individually distilled and expertly blended into this outstanding gin. Bright, herbaceous, wonderfully well rounded and exceptionally refreshing, this gin captures the quintessential taste of the English seasons.
El Rayo Tequila
Tequila is a punchy spirit for sure but El Rayo Tequila is a modern version of the drink which has been distilled with the intention of pairing with tonic and bringing out the flavour in both. El Rayo craft a single ingredient, great-tasting tequila that’s designed to mix with tonic. Turning Tequila into your first drink, not your last. Their clean, vibrant flavours all naturally come from Mexico’s slow grown blue agave and El Rayo don’t use any other flavours or additives to keep the tequila as pure as nature intended. It’s just water and the best blue agave. When paired with tonic it provides a deliciously smooth and light experience. It’s clean. It’s natural. It’s fresh.
