Despite our massive love of football games on next generation consoles here at Coolector HQ we’ve never found a game more wonderfully addictive when it comes to the beautiful game than that of Sensible Soccer and it is for that reason that we have fallen so hard for this brilliant collection of 8-Bit artwork from Matheus Toscano that celebrates the most famous and, indeed, infamous moments of this year’s World Cup in Brazil.
Toscano has a love of both football and vintage 8-bit videogames and these two loves have been perfectly married together in his superb website filled with all manner of football-related 8-bit awesomeness but it is his collection from this year’s World Cup that is most timely and eye-catching. All manner of magic moments from Brazil have been captured in this collection from the sublime (James Rodriguez’s volley) to the ridiculous (Luis Suarez’s inexplicable chomp) and we’re massively impressed with how well Toscano has managed to capture these moments despite having just 8-bits at his disposal.
These striking images have been created by Toscano using an iPad, stylus and an app called Sprite Something and they are entirely indistinguishable from the sorts of graphics that made us love Sensible Soccer so much. If you’re lamenting the end of the World Cup as much as us and have an equally large obsession with 1990’s football games then you’ll love this collection too – check out a few of the best below:
This collection of 8-bit artwork has made us revel in what really was a brilliant and incident filled World Cup in Brazil and also made us really want to dust off the Commodore Amiga and load up Sensible Soccer. For those of the same era as us here at Coolector HQ, we’re in no doubt it will have left you feeling the same.
