There is some light at the end of the tunnel for us beer fans with pub beer gardens opening up again this month so if you’re itching to get some al fresco pints on the go in the next few weeks in London, let us take the leg work out of it by picking out 8 of the best beer gardens the Big Smoke has to offer.
Check out our selection below:
People’s Park Tavern, Hackney
One of the most verdant on the list, the beer garden at People’s Park Tavern is perfect for some summer craft beer imbibing. This Hackney based watering hole is nestled in Victoria Park and their awesome beer garden is one of the capital’s best kept secrets amongst beer fans.
Truman Social Club, Brick Lane
With abundant space, this Brick Lane based offering is part of the Truman Brewery and the Social Club is a new offering based on providing an excellent outdoor drinking space for these post-Corona times. Serving 20 draft beers on keg and cask, including a selection of Truman’s core and limited editions, alongside a curated list of guest beers from some of the best breweries in the UK and beyond, what’s not to like?
The White Swan, Twickenham
Small but perfectly formed, the beer garden at The White Swan in Twickenham is one of the most idyllic spots in the city. The White Swan is a traditional free house positioned on the banks of the River Thames in Twickenham. The pub dates back to the 17th century and you can see it in the Samuel Scott print, dated 1760, that hangs above the fire in the bar. The pub is made up of two rooms, a terrace-balcony and a garden right on the riverbank. A summer drinking spot essential.
The Prince, Earl’s Court
Awesome doesn’t do the beer garden at The Prince, Earl’s Court, justice and you’ll find few spots better for a post lockdown pint. Less a bar, more an entire street, transformed into an epicurean paradise and boasting London’s most vibrant food, drink and social experiences, it’s a must visit in our opinion at The Coolector. Day or night, rain or shine, come eat, drink and party at London’s largest pub garden, complete with retractable roof.
The Old Fountain, Old Street
A regular haunt of ours here at The Coolector, The Old Fountain in Old Street, this rooftop terrace makes a great place to enjoy some outdoor amber nectar this spring and summer. The terrace is small but has a really relaxing vibe away from the hustle and bustle of the Silicon Roundabout location. There is also an amazing selection of craft beers to pick from at The Old Fountain and these are regularly rotated.
Mercato Metropolitano, Elephant & Castle
Mercato Metropolitano is definitely one of the capital’s best-kept secrets; a gargantuan beer garden which is hidden away in Newington Causeway SE1. The partially-covered garden area spans a vast 15,000 square feet with over 500 seats so it’s ideal for post lockdown drinking and boasts in excess of 40 food and drink vendors. Essentially, this is London’s leading food and drink metropolis. One of its stand out features is the on-site micro-brewery German Kraft, a craft brewery rooted in German tradition which specialises in fresh, authentic German style beers, and a distillery from sustainable urban gin, Jim and Tonic.
The Alwyne Castle, Islington
Combining the best in British pub hospitality with individuality, character and quirky charm, The Alwyne Castle is located at the heart of London’s thriving Highbury district. The ideal setting for a laid-back yet memorable drinking and dining experience this spring and summer. Whether you’re looking for a lazy lunch or family dinner, The Alwyne Castle offers flavoursome food, an explorative drinks menu and an authentic, homely atmosphere to suit all occasions.
Pop, Brixton
Pop Brixton is a temporary project that has turned disused land into a creative space for local, independent businesses and has the ideal outdoor drinking space for the next few months as we come out of lockdown. Come and discover South London’s most exciting start-ups working in food, retail, design and social enterprise.
