Minimalist design is something that we’ve got a lot of time for here at The Coolector and that’s an aesthetic that is imbued within this awesome looking BOTTA Clavius Automatic Watch which is available from Worn & Wound’s WindUp Watch Store. This glorious looking timepiece has a decidedly contemporary visual impact and will add a touch of class to any wrist to which it is adorned. Billed as the watchmaker’s most far-out design, it’s hard not to be wowed by the look and feel of this watch. Though they are best known for their one-handed timepieces, when they approach a classic three-hander, if you can call this that, BOTTA does so with a totally innovative approach. And we love it.
Priced at a mighty reasonable $1625, you’ll be getting one of the most eye-catching watches on the market without having to break the bank entirely and it’s not difficult to see why the BOTTA Clavius Automatic Watch is proving incredibly popular amongst horology aficionados. Both space-aged and contemporary, the Clavius Automatic combines seemingly floating hands with a printed crystal that creates the optical illusion of jumping seconds. You have never seen a watch like this before and you’ll be blown away the first time you lay eyes on it.
SENSATIONAL VISUALS & PERFORMANCE
Encased in a 44mm steel circle that somehow manages to be a mere 10.8mm to the top of the massive domed sapphire crystal, the dial of the Botta Clavius boasts a cleverly layered construction. The base is matte black, but features gloss black markers per hour, which have just the right amount of contrast to be simple to read. On the backside of the crystal is a black circle with a series of cutouts as well as 12, 6, and 9 numerals, and the BOTTA’s logo. The hour and minute hands are between these layers, and appear as just green shapes that float as their stems are hidden from view.
The BOTTA Clavius Automatic Watch ($1625) is undoubtedly one of the most unusual and coolest looking timepieces on the market and they are positively flying off the shelves of Worn & Wound’s WindUp Store so you’ll need to move fast if you want to secure one for your wrist. The most eye-catching feature of this majestic looking watch is the second hand, which is only visible through the cutouts in the graphic on the crystal. By combining these windows with a unique hand shape, the hand appears to linger in each window as though it paused, rather than having a smooth sweep. It then crawls over to the next window where it waits again. The effect is semi-digital, or like a dead-stop seconds, yet it is created only through an illusion.
Made in Germany to exacting standards, these timepieces are impressive from top to bottom and one of the most unique accessories you can add to your wrist in 2021. Powering the Clavius Automatic Watch from BOTTA is the tried-and-tested ETA 2824-2 movement which is one of the best out there. This Swiss-made movement boast 25-jewels, an excellent 38-hour power reserve, date, and hacking seconds (the second hand stops when the crown is pulled out) and it’s also visible through the display case back. Want a watch that will get people talking? You’ve found it.
