Though you may not have known it, the musician, John Mayer, has a pretty big fascination with watches and regularly teams up with Hodinkee to speak about them. They’ve just joined forces with the guys at G-SHOCK for this Ref. 6900-PT80 By John Mayer Watch which is available to purchase from the Hodinkee store. This is the second time Mayer and G-SHOCK have come together to create an awesome looking timepiece and the 6900-PT80 is one of the coolest you can get on your wrist in 2022.
The G-SHOCK Ref. 6900-PT80 By John Mayer Watch retails for a very wallet friendly price tag of just $180 so if you want an impactful watch that doesn’t break the bank then look no further. The original G-SHOCK DW6900 has developed quite the cult following over the last 26 years and internationally, it’s the third most popular G-SHOCK watch ever as well as the top-selling model in Japan – so it stands to reason it was the canvas upon which this John Mayer collaboration was built.
MUSIC TO OUR EARS
This new watch builds upon the previous release with a fresh colourway that has nods to the mid-1980 classic Casio PT-80 keyboard. The resin case and strap are an off-white shade that feels contemporary and will age brilliantly. Bursts of vibrant colours indicate functionality; sunshine yellow for the Mode and Start/Stop indicators and tangerine orange for the Adjust and Split/Reset indicators. The G-SHOCK text at the top of the watch is a a rather eye-catching shade of periwinkle which delivers a visual flourish to the overall design. Each of the three registers are circled in one of red, green, or grey. The coolest part is that all of the coluors used on G-SHOCK Ref. 6900-PT80 come straight from the original PT-80 keyboard.
The G-SHOCK Ref. 6900-PT80 By John Mayer Watch ($180 from the Hodinkee Store) possesses stylish retro vibes in a light-hearted package and when you add in a splash of G-SHOCK’s iconic and hardwearing charm, you’ve got the brand-new G-SHOCK Ref. 6900-PT80 By John Mayer. What’s not to like? The DW6900 famously boasts a four-screen display, with three separate indicators in the upper half of the watch that have come to be known as the “Triple Graph.” It’s this unique aesthetic that mad the original DW6900 so appealing to the trendsetters of the 1990s and has carried it through to the 2020s.
