1962 TOYOTA FJ40 LAND CRUISER BY ICON 4×4

The guys at ICON 4×4 do some of the best Toyota restorations in the business and they are particular adept at bringing a new lease of life to old school Land Cruisers such as this 1962 FJ40. Going under the hammer with car auctioneers, Collecting Cars, this impressive looking steed has been hand built by ICON 4×4 in Los Angeles and anyone who knows their workshops know that they are truly a cut above the competition in terms of the quality of their builds and this stunning lot is no exception.

The 1962 Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser from Collecting Cars has a current bid under $50k which is pretty good value for money for a Cruiser that has been restored to exacting standards and with top of the range materials by ICON 4×4. Under the bonnet you’ll find a 2.8-litre ‘International’ turbocharged diesel inline-four engine, driving all four wheels through a five-speed manual gearbox and this spectacular Land Cruiser is fitted with a host of extras that includes an insulated double three-ply soft top, sports pedals, a WARN winch, Alpine stereo with SiriusXM satellite receiver, and a roll cage with an integrated roof rack. Adventure ready in the extreme.

FANTASTIC FEATURES THROUGHOUT

Though it’s from the 60s originally, this Land Cruiser has been so comprehensively rebuilt by ICON 4×4 that it boasts a thoroughly 21st century performance and aesthetic. It has been rebuilt to comply with international standards, and boasts front and rear indicators as well as a reversing light and fog light. The bodywork has been powder-coated in Rocky Mountain Grey, while the cabin is trimmed in black leather with grey textured Chilewich textile seat centres and matching carpet.

This 1962 Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser from Collecting Cars (current bid of $48k) rides on 17-inch grey ‘American Racing’ wheels shod with BFGoodrich All-Terrain tyres and also features Hella halogen headlights as well as front and rear auxiliary lighting, and a WARN winch is integrated into the front bumper. Included in the auction sale are manuals for the parts fitted, ICON brochures, a removable Garmin Zumo satellite navigation system, and two sets of keys.

The Toyota FJ40 is an iconic 1960s 4×4, and this wonderfully updated and enhanced example from Collecting Cars has been entirely rebuilt by Los Angeles-based Land Cruiser specialist ICON using a range of high-quality parts and fittings. Marrying the breathtaking aesthetics of the 1960s version with modern-day usability, this FJ40 promises to deliver as a practical daily driver and effortlessly capable all-terrain ally for many more years to come, and would make an excellent addition to any Land Cruiser enthusiast’s collection in our opinion here at Coolector HQ.
