Living on the water is something that certainly appeals to us here at The Coolector but, truth be told, boat houses aren’t something that we’ve really thought about. Until now that is, with the extraordinary looking Bosco Boat House which is up for sale at cool £1.5m (which, needless to say, is considerably outside of our budget lamentably).
Located on the southern banks of the River Thames, Bosco House Boat is a spectacularly converted 1950s Dutch barge with a rare 120-year mooring on Oyster Pier in Battersea, south London. It was designed by LAB Architects for their own family and has three bedrooms, two living spaces, a utility room, an open-plan kitchen/dining room, and a stunning winter garden located on the boat’s deck.
With over 2,150 sq ft of internal space, Bosco Boat House from LAB Architects offers all the benefits of a first-class family home, with the unique addition of the sense of serenity that comes with living your life so close to the water. Originally, Bosco was a cargo barge traversing the European waterways transporting grain and coal. In order to transform it into a comfortable family home, it needed a complete re-engineering; a new steel and glass top section was designed, while the internal space was configured in such a way that complemented the existing brass porthole.
The light-filled entrance, accessed from the central deck, delivers broad, unbroken views across the Thames and over to Imperial Wharf on the North Bank. The space below deck has been broken into three parts, each with its own staircase. The main bedroom and en suite bathroom lie at one end, the childrens’ quarters at the other, and there are social spaces in the middle. Got a spare £1.5m? A life on the Thames awaits.
