There are, of course, new watch brands emerging pretty much daily so it takes a lot to stand out from the crowd and rise above the sea of mediocrity in the world of horology. A new Californian watch brand by the name of LaMotte Watch Co has done exactly that with their flagship launch, the devilishly dapper Balboa Watch which is overflowing with old-school cool and looks like the sort of timepiece that Don Draper would happily sport.
Priced at $895, the Balboa from LaMotte Watch Co is a premium automatic timepiece that has been designed and assembled in the United States. Billed as an all-around sports watch that looks the part in any environment, the rugged style paired with premium finishes of the Balboa make sure of a stylish, versatile and robust accessory that will be your go-to choice day in, day out.
There is a distinctive, effortlessly cool aesthetic to the Balboa Watch from LaMotte that we’re loving here at The Coolector and the 316L stainless steel case is ideally proportioned at 39mm and boasts sapphire crystals on the front and back. The rugged look of the steel case and brushed steel dial are contrasted by premium finishes that include polished hands and applied numerals, ensuring the watch looks just as good dressed up for a night out as it does kicking back and relaxing.
The hands and numbers of the Balboa have an impressive amount of blue X1 Super-LumiNova for unrivalled visibility in low-light conditions and the 10 ATM depth rating was achieved without having to use a screw-down crown. Each timepiece from this debut launch will have a unique serial number paired with an 8-year warranty on movement and assembly from the date of purchase. Also included with the Balboa Watch is a watchmaker’s card, hand signed by the individual that assembled the watch in the US.
LaMotte Watch Company is understandably delighted to be one of the first to offer the Americhron Automatic movement in their Balboa timepiece. Designed, assembled and tested in the USA using American and internationally sourced parts, it’s a vital step forward in the American watchmaking industry. This movement integrates traditional watchmaking tenets, so while it is a newly designed movement for watch aficionados to appreciate, it can still be serviced by any certified watchmaker. Win, win.
There is an abundance of eye-catching features to the Balboa Watch that make its sub-$1000 price tag all the more impressive. This includes the aforementioned automatic, American-built movement, a 40-hour power reserve with 28,800 bph, a premium hand-crafted leather strap with an embossed logo on the inside lining and the striking brushed stainless steel dial. After an American-built watch overflowing with quality? The Balboa is a knockout.
