Needless to say, we’ve got quite the penchant for vintage car customisations here at Coolector HQ and we’re always wowed by the revitalising skills of the workshop of Legacy Overland and, if you need convincing of this yourself, you need look no further than this 1982 Toyota Land Cruiser BJ40 Convertible. Spectacularly refurbished from the ground up, this magnificent looking steed has definitely caught our eye and if you love vintage machines, it will have caught yours too.
The Legacy Overland 1982 Toyota Land Cruiser BJ40 Convertible has been revamped to effortlessly blend in with nature. The glossy finish, which is in Toyota Olive Green (code 653) colour, and a beige period correct canvas soft-top are only the extra pieces of icing on the cake here. Beside this beautiful soft-top Legacy Overland have implemented a custom-built, extra-strength, roll-bar so that no matter your chosen terrain, this fully restored Land Cruiser BJ40 is going to tackle it with aplomb.
Road Warrior
It’s under the hood where this Legacy Overland 1982 Toyota Land Cruiser BJ40 Convertible truly excels and it’s here that you’ll find a completely overhauled and rebuilt B-type (diesel) inline four-cylinder engine, with a 2,977cc displacement and an output of 80bhp at 3,600rpm – so, it goes without saying, this machine is no slouch in the outdoor adventure department. The clutch and transmission have also been part of the rebuilding process and are now as streamlined for performance as ever. For the suspension, Legacy Overland’s craftsmen used Old Man Emu components, which are synonymous with reliability across the challenging Australian landscapes.
The Legacy Overland 1982 Toyota Land Cruiser BJ40 Convertible puts the driver’s comfort as a top priority – something that many other adventure ready vehicles typically don’t. It boasts upgraded front bucket seats and when you combine that with the rear benches you get a practical truck that can bring much fun to up to six adventure enthusiasts. They saved the most luxurious elements for the interior and you can enjoy this Land Cruiser’s singularity from the comfort of your seat. The Italian leather upholstery, the cubby and the floor mats are all custom-made and deliver and unparalleled level of quality to proceedings.
As with all the custom creations from Legacy Overland, there is a real emphasis on the use of technology and this 1982 Toyota Land Cruiser BJ40 Convertible has been fitted with plenty of components to ensure an enjoyable experience. The function may be contemporary in nature but the look and feel is still decidedly vintage. A good example is the radio, which is Bluetooth-enabled, yet preserves the old-school visuals of the Land Cruisers’ glorious days from the 70s. The lights also keep their traditional shape, but are powered by LED.

Attention to detail is always the call of the day with Legacy Overland’s restoration projects and so it proves with this 1982 Toyota Land Cruiser BJ40 Convertible as well. Everywhere you look you’ll see a great addition to the design and this includes things like long-throw fog lights, an Italian leather interior, custom made wool floor mats, a Jerry can in colour of car and BF Goodrich Mud-terrain T/A tires.

Immaculate from top to bottom, it’s mighty impressive just how much skill and attention to detail goes into each and every one of Legacy Overland’s creations.
