Classic cars are somewhat of a pipe dream of ours here at Coolector HQ and though we’re unlikely to ever get our hands on one as mesmerising as this 1967 Dodge Charger, it doesn’t hurt to dream. Going under the hammer with Mecum Auctions, this majestic looking machine is over half a century old but looks about as good as it did the day it came off the production line all those years ago.
The 1967 Dodge Charger from Mecum Auctions is one of the main attractions from their upcoming Glendale auction and with good reason. It has undergone a professional rebuild to exacting standards by Johnson’s Hot Rod Shop which has left it in a condition that is almost better than new. Boasting a menacing stance and looking rapid even while stationary, this 1967 Dodge Charger is the awesome product of a full professional restoration and build and will soon be added to some lucky classic car collector’s line up of machines.
Old Meets New
This stunning 1967 Dodge Charger may retain its basic original cues, but the body, chassis and suspension have all been re-imagined and re-engineered to deliver its breathtaking stance and aesthetic profile. Its restorers were incredibly well-qualified to perform the task at hand, with a body of work stretching back to the early 1990s and a 1937 Ford that took the 1993 NSRA Street Rod Nationals by storm, winning the Pro’s Pick award and going on to grace many magazine pages and, as you can see, they’ve done a bang up job with this Charger too.
A number of subtle body tweaks have been carried out on this 1967 Dodge Charger by the team at Johnson’s Hot Rod Shop. Its unique body lines remain untouched and are only truly apparent upon closer inspection. Both front and rear bumpers have been narrowed and flush-fitted for an incredibly striking visual impact and the front bumper was equipped with openings to deliver cooler air to the transmission and power-steering coolers. The rear bumper of this Charger was also further enhanced with horizontal openings which have been included to accommodate the dual exhaust-outlet tips.
This 1967 Dodge Charger has a lot going on under the hood and boasts greatly enhanced power and performance courtesy of an installation of a Ray Barton-built 528 CI Hemi V-8 engine built up from a Mopar Performance iron block, with cylinders bored out to 4.5 inches and stuffed with a Barton forged crank with 4.15-inch stroke, billet steel rods, JE 10:1 pistons and a Barton hydraulic roller cam. All the enhancements which have been carried come together to deliver 651 HP with 618 lb-ft of stump-pulling torque which is mighty impressive stuff.
Iconic Design
It goes without saying that the Dodge Charger is one of the most popular muscle cars ever created and this one in particular has quite the impressive backstory. It served as the featured cover car for the April 2012 edition of “Popular Hot Rodding” magazine, which was in keeping with many of the custom creations built at Johnson’s Hot Rod Shop over the past quarter century.
It is unquestionably one of the most unique and highly detailed custom interpretations of Dodge’s first-generation Charger in recent years, this 1967 Dodge Charger Resto Mod retains its classic NASCAR-inspired character with select improvements and the ability to excel in every possible discipline and it could be yours if you’re the lucky bidder at Mecum’s Glendale Auction.
