Whilst Marvel is the biggest hitter in the movie world right now, it’s important to remember where it all began with their much loved and iconic comic books and that’s exactly what this Marvel: The Silver Age 1960–1970 Edition from The Folio Society does. It marks the second chapter in The Folio Society’s collaboration with Marvel Comics and it is a stunning addition to any collector’s line up of wares.
With The Folio Society Marvel: The Silver Age 1960-1970 Edition there is over 30 revolutionary Super Heroes awaiting you, which includes the likes of Spider-Man, the Avengers and Doctor Strange. This wonderful limited edition offering has been carefully curated by Marvel legend Roy Thomas. This collector’s edition comes complete with a scale reproduction of the groundbreaking The Fantastic Four #1 – a fact which will definitely make it an attractive proposition to comic book fans out there.
Classic Collector’s Item
This luxurious hardback edition from The Folio Society combines the most iconic stories from over thirty revolutionary characters, including Iron Man, the Hulk and the X-Men. These landmark tales are bound within a bold cover which has been put together by legendary typographer Ian Jepson. Award-winning Daredevil artist Paolo Rivera delivers the stunning artwork for a digitally signed print, as well as the book’s endpapers and luxury presentation box. Within, you’ll also discover a impeccable facsimile of The Fantastic Four #1, the comic which first propelled Marvel into the modern age.
Needless to say, one of the stand out features of The Folio Society Marvel: The Silver Age 1960-1970 Edition (£150) is the breathtaking facsimile of The Fantastic Four #1. It introduced a team of astronauts who became an unusually fractious band of Super Heroes. The Folio Society has created a 32-page scale facsimile of that first issue, scanned in its entirety straight from the pages of a collector’s copy. It has been printed on authentic paperstock and presented as close as humanly possible to its original condition – which includes the printing errors in the original. This first class reproduction is the closest you’ll ever get to getting your hands on a copy from the newsstand almost sixty years ago.
This mesmerising collector’s edition has been curated by Stan Lee’s editorial successor, Roy Thomas. (Two of Thomas’s earliest co-creations, the Vision and Ultron, both appear here in a story from The Avengers #57). The stories have been selected and reproduced with the utmost care. So as to obtain actual copies of the source comics, The Folio Society worked closely with both Marvel archivists and pillars of the comic collector community in an effort to bring you as close to the original source material as possible.
Out of this World Artwork
As you would expect for a collector’s edition of this calibre, The Folio Society have placed a heavy emphasis on the quality of the artwork. Modern Marvel artist Paolo Rivera – who is likely best known for his award-winning work on Daredevil – delivers wonderful pencil artwork, inked by his father Joe, who himself is a veteran Marvel artist.
Priced at £150, this represents a bit of an investment but one well worth making in our opinion here at Coolector HQ. Each The Folio Society Marvel: The Silver Age 1960-1970 Edition comes housed within a striking, handmade presentation box that adds to its allure. This 368-page edition comes bound in screen-printed and metallic foil-blocked cloth, complete with red ribbon marker and for a collector of Marvel memorabilia, it doesn’t get much better than this.
