Farer are one of our favourite British watchmakers here at Coolector HQ and we always eagerly await new releases from the brand and they’ve not let us down with their latest offering – the Crooms GMT Watch. This visually vibrant timepiece is a GMT Bezel dual time and date automatic watch with iridescent deep red sunray dial and Maine St. Venere leather strap that adds a tangible sense of quality to proceedings.
The Farer Crooms GMT Watch has a price tag of $1475 and it has been designed to show the time in two different time zones simultaneously with the aid of the fourth GM-Time hour hand and quick set 24-hour bi-directional bezel. A timepiece that looks just as striking in any time zone, the Crooms GMT Bezel showcases how style and substance can be effortlessly balanced with its unique dial colour in conjunction with tool functionality.
Vibrant Design
The visually vibrant iridescent deep red sunray finish has been refined to provide a change in depth and colour depending on the light that surrounds you. Raised highly polished markers infilled in Super-LumiNova do a great job of framing the dial, held by the 3, 6, and 9 numerals in custom British font ‘Brown’ – a development of the original London Underground font which has been chosen for enhanced legibility.
The external bi-directional GMT bezel of the Farer Crooms Watch ($1475) has been designed to deliver a bold, visual balance to the overall timepiece without being overbearing, and clicks into reassuring position at 24 hour points using the floating rotation ratchet system. The bezel is crafted from marine-grade 316L stainless steel, circular brushed top with precision ‘light catcher’ highly polished bevel edges, horizontal-brushed sides, which are set against a polished back – all of which come together to create a visually light effect to a no-nonsense case.
Boasting a Swiss Made SELLITA SW330-1 Top Grade movement with bespoke rotor which features the Farer A emblem in skeleton. This is joined by the Glucydur balance wheel, Nivaflex spring, Incabloc anti-shock mechanism – all components which are responsible for help delivering the mighty reliable performance of the Crooms GMT Watch from Farer.
Interesting Backstory
Crooms Hill, Maze Hill, and Charlton Way are the three roads that surround Greenwich Park in London, the fourth side is held by The Royal Naval College that itself backs on to the River Thames. The Park is where the Royal Observatory is found – which is home to Greenwich Mean Time (GMT).
GMT dates back to 1884 when an international convention declared Greenwich, England as the ‘Mean Time’ against which the rest of the world’s time navigation would be compared. Still relied upon as the global time zone alignment, it was made popular as a watch function by the globe trotting Pan Am pilots of the 1950s and is seen in all manner of watches to this day.
