It’s been a while since we found ourselves on the Simon Stålenhag site but given he is probably one of our favourite artists here at Coolector HQ, we like to give it some time before returning as this gives him time to add plenty of awesome new pieces to his site and so it has proven once again.
Although quite a lot has changed this time around as Stålenhag is likely an even bigger household name than he already was courtesy of the excellent Amazon series, Tales from the Loop which is based upon his awesome artwork. If you weren’t aware of the Swede’s mesmerising retro modern creations, chances are you will be now.
Electric State
Each of Simon Stålenhag’s series of artwork has their own distinctive vibe and characters and regardless of which you’re looking at, the level of meticulous detail that has gone into each creation truly is beyond compare. There is something eerily stark about the paintings that the uber-talented Swede creates and they are so evocative despite the jarring nature of having what appear to be androids in everyday human situations.
If you love the artwork of Simon Stålenhag then you’re in luck because not only does he have a great series of coffee table books under his belt, a board game, prints and the television show on Amazon, we’re sure he’s got plenty more up his sleeve for 2021 and beyond.
Stålenhag is the internationally acclaimed author and artist behind Tales from the Loop and Things from the Flood. His highly emotive series of artwork and stories deliver a window on the illusive sci-fi phenomena in mundane, hyper-realistic Scandinavian and American landscapes. These have made Stålenhag one of the most sought-after visual storytellers in the world. Tales from the Loop was ranked one of the “10 Best Dystopias” by The Guardian, along with such works as Franz Kafka’s The Trial and Andrew Niccol’s Gattaca.
Unforgettable Artworks
There is something truly indelible about the artwork of Stålenhag and we’ll often find ourselves randomly thinking about one of the worlds he has created. That’s the sure sign of a talented artist and we’re delighted to have come across Stålenhag’s artwork over five years ago now at Coolector and chronicle the journey it has been on in the meantime.
If there was ever an artist that captured the essence of the world that he has created is would definitely be Stålenhag in our opinion here at The Coolector. There is something so familiar yet strangely other-worldly about the vistas and scenarios that he concocts. We love the devilish detail that goes into all his pieces and we truly can’t wait to see what new pieces he’ll come up with in the next 12 months (hopefully alongside another season of Tales from the Loop and, really hoping on this one, a Monkey Island-esque adventure computer game). One can dream.
