The classic lines of the Kawasaki KZ400 are often used to make beautiful minimalist motorcycles, but the guys at Auto Fabrica have taken the model to new heights with their Type 14 build. It’s a motorcycle that makes a statement about style and sleekness without being overly showy. It’s an exploration in refinement, beauty and restraint. In other words, there’s no other KZ400 like it.
Auto Fabrica describes this bike as “effortlessly beautiful,” and we can’t argue with that. From every angle, the bike exudes an austere confidence. This was a machine built by men who know what they’re doing. Bujar and Gazmend Muharremi started Auto Fabrica and specialize in bespoke, hand-made motorcycles. The Type 14 is one of their greatest creations.
Hand Made Parts Make For a Handsome Look
From its short, chopped seat and sleek black tank to its wide handlebars with knurled metal grips, the Type 14 is an orgy of black, brushed aluminum and hints of chrome. What astonishes us about this motorcycle is both its simplicity and its attention to detail. At first glance, there doesn’t seem to be much to this motorcycle. Take a closer look and you’ll notice that each and every handmade part was made with one mission.
It’s the cohesive design that propels this bike to greatness. It’s the subtle chrome accents that make just the right elements of the motorcycle pop visually. It’s the fact that the foot pegs have an identical knurled design as the wide-set handlebars. It’s the sleek gas tank with the gas cap set down in the tank as to not ruin the bike’s lines. All of it together shows that this bike isn’t simple. It’s just built with a clarity of design that other bikes and bike builders can’t match.
The bike features a frame that was lightened and modified. The engine was completely rebuilt and r-tuned. The electronics on the bike were stripped from the frame and modern lighting and wiring installed. The stainless steel exhausts were hand-bent in the shop. The suspension was upgraded with new front internal components and rear received uprated shocks. Brembo brakes with steel braided brake lines were added to the front of the machine and both 18-inch wheels re-laced.
A Brotherly Built Masterpiece
The Muharremi brothers do everything in-house in their Southend-on-Sea shop near London. The shop’s creations are designed to “harmoniously balance function and form” – a feat the brothers definitely achieved with the Type 14 and which delivers such a striking aesthetic impact.
The most eye-catching part of the bike is the sleek, black gas tank. It’s made of aluminum and is custom built to be the lynchpin of this beautiful motorcycle. Behind that is a custom made seat clad in black suede leather that ends just at the peak of the rear tire. In all, the Type 14 is a true piece of art and exactly the kind of build we like to see.
