We’re always big fans of the limited edition collaboration watches that Hodinkee bring out here at The Coolector and when we saw they were joining forces with one of our favourite watchmakers, Autodromo, we were understandably delighted. The Autodromo x Hodinkee Group B Watches are a series of new timepieces that will definitely resonate with aficionados of old school racing events.
The Autodromo x Hodinkee Group B Watches retail for $1495 and there are five different colour combinations to choose from so you’re sure to find one that resonates with your own style sensibilities. Hodinkee has been big fans of Autodromo for quite a while and when the chance presented itself for a collab between their Limited Editions team and Autodromo founder Bradley Price was first presented, they unanimously agreed that it wasn’t enough to riff on the previous models of the highly-popular Group B series. They pulled out all the stops to create something very special. And we’re loving it here at The Coolector.
With the desire of keeping all the things Hodinkee loved about the original Group B watches while reimagining what the timepiece was capable of achieving, they added some racing-inspired capabilities with the addition of a Swiss-made mechanical chronograph movement. To celebrate the most successful Group B liveries of the era and their iconic and much-loved early-80s designs, the dials wonderfully reference the spirit of Group B rally racing and bring a sense of fun back into collecting watches.
The stand-out design feature of these watches is the unique bi-metallic case construction. Principally consisting of high-quality titanium and with a stainless steel lug chassis, the body of the Autodromo x Hodinkee Group B Watch has satisfying heft but none of the weightiness, which allows the case to sink into the wrist for a comfortable yet sophisticated look and feel.
Combining contemporary and understated aesthetic principles effortlessly into the overall 80s-inspired visuals, hexagonal-shaped pushers provide a modern detail in a new and elegant fashion quintessential to Autodromo’s design ethos. The lightweight stainless steel bracelet gleams like a DeLorean in the rain and can be taken off with a springbar tool if you prefer to personalize your style with your favourite strap.
