The LTD Architects designed Back Country House is to be found on a hillside in verdant bush land in New Zealand and it is about as tranquil and peaceful as it gets. Spectacularly designed and executed and phenomenal looking inside and out, the Back Country House plays on the uniquely New Zealand typology of the much loved back country hut and brings in a touch of luxury and contemporary style to proceedings to deliver a highly functional and versatile modern living space.

New Zealand Charm

Situated in bush land around 50km north of Auckland, the Back Country House by LTD Architects aims to deliver a simplistic and minimalist style design which provides a great use of space and really capitalises on the stunning views that envelope the property. This first class piece of architecture is crafted from locally sourced band sawn macrocarpa and galvanized corrugated iron which have been used for the exterior materials and to provide protection from the elements.

With simplicity being the fundamental aim of the Back Country House from LTD Architects, the space is is comprised of a single volume for living/cooking/ eating and this is joined by a lean-to annex which is where the lower floor service/sleeping areas are to be found. The spaces are very open-plan and shared as opposed to enclosed and separate and this is a feature that the architects were keen to get right as its a very family orientated dwelling.

The real beauty of the property is the fact that it opens out onto a spectacular decking area which brings a real sense of the great outdoors inside and affords mesmerising views of the surrounding countryside which, being New Zealand, is breathtaking to say the least. Ensuring that the property fits in seamlessly with its surroundings, LTD Architects chose a variety of rough hewn, natural materials which sit extremely well with the natural setting which the property enjoys.
