Whilst there is no denying we love to bask in the aesthetic awesomeness of classic Porsches and Ferraris here at The Coolector, we’re also equally as enamoured with other classic cars that have a bit more character and vintage charm to them and that is something which applies perfectly to this BMW 2002 Turbo available from German classic car specialists, Schaltkulisse. This exemplary looking machine is old school cool personified and is presented in absolutely immaculate condition with a Chamonix white exterior that pops and turns heads wherever your road trips may take you.
The BMW 2002 Turbo from Schaltkulisse has a price tag of €150k so it’s an expensive addition to any classic car collector’s line up but, let’s face it, it will also be one of the coolest looking and the one you’ll want to drive more often than not. It has undergone a complete restoration using original BMW parts and it is presented in as good, if not better condition, than it was when it first rolled off the production line back in 1974. Always wanted to add a stand out BMW to your classic car haul – now’s your chance.
EFFORTLESS COOL
It doesn’t take more than a single glance to understand that the BMW 2002 Turbo is a special vehicle and one worthy of your €150k. Behind its old school cool looks and its iconic war colours is one of the holy grails of BMW – namely, a true performance car which was capable of achieving a 0 to 100 time of under seven seconds, with a maximum top speed of over 200 km/h – and all of this back in 1973. Impressive stuff indeed. The 2002 Turbo was BMW’s first endeavour at crafting a turbocharged production car. The specs were eye-opening to say the least: a KK&K turbocharger with a compression ratio of 6.9:1 brought the 2002 tii engine to 170 PS at 5,800 rpm, with a 240 Nm of torque, and a feather weight of 1080 kg.
This spectacular BMW 2002 Turbo from Schaltkulisse (€150k) is one of just 1,672 that left the Bavarian’s factory. This didn’t hinder the 2002 Turbo from becoming a motoring icon, however, especially with its unique stripes and the “2002 Turbo” lettering, which was applied in reverse on the front bumper to give the car in front a gentle hint to move over. The writing was judged to encourage aggressive driving and therefore not applied on the car at the time of delivery though. The owner was then free of applying the decals which came with the car should they so desire and we dare say that most probably did.
The condition of this particular BMW 2002 Turbo is nothing short of exceptional and the car drives and feels as if it just left the assembly line which is a mighty impressive thing given that it is nearly half a century old. This lot from Schaltkulise represents a unique opportunity to acquire a piece of Bavarian automotive history, and one of the most iconic German sportscars ever to hit the market. The originality of the parts which constitute this build make it one of the most original and genuine BMW 2002 Turbo on the market so make sure you don’t miss out if you’ve got the readies to afford it.
