We’re big fans of the motorcycle-inspired brand, Deus Ex Machina, here at The Coolector so when we saw they’d joined forces with one of our favourite watchmakers, Breitling, on a limited edition timepiece, we were understandably elated. This is their second edition of the hit timepiece along with a new clothing collaboration intended to revive the nomadic spirit of Breitling’s unconventional chronograph from the 1960s.
The Breitling x Deus Ex Machina Top Time Watch sees them team up once again on a limited-edition Top Time Deus chronograph. It’s the second collaboration between the two brands, following their first sold-out watch released in 2021. Limited to just 2000 pieces, the new Top Time Deus is purpose-built for open-road adventures and boasts luminescent indexes and a white lacquered dial contrasted by sky-blue on its subdials and speed-measuring tachymeter scale.
While the colour palette for this collaboration is all new, the details that made the first collab so successful are back in force and this includes the lightning-bolt-shaped chronograph hand, mushroom pushers, racing-themed calfskin leather strap and caseback engraving of a Deus bike and rider designed by Deus creative director Carby Tuckwell.
Each caseback on the Breitling x Deus Ex Machina Top Time Watch is marked with the “One of 2000” limitation so it has an added air of exclusivity. Each new Top Time Deus is delivered with a co-branded waxed-canvas travel tote and Breitling and Deus have also partnered on a new line of clothing and accessories that fans of the brands can only get their hands on at six Breitling flagships worldwide.
Originally showcased in the 1960s, Breitling’s unconventional Top Time chronograph quickly became a favourite with a stylish in-crowd of café racers and sports car aficionados. Men and women were equally drawn to its uncompromising dimensions and graphic dials. Today, the Top Time remains Breitling’s watch for bikers, boarders, surfers, and digital nomads — and at 41 mm, it’s a fit for most wrists. What’s not to like?
