When it comes to thinking about one’s dream home, chances are that the thought process won’t typically involve industrial style shipping containers but C-Home from LOT-EK Architects might just change your thought process on that. This fantastic piece of contemporary architecture upcycles six conventional shipping containers and delivers a modern home full of light, space and impressive design features.
With some 1920m² of living space, C-Home from LOT-EK Architects has a surprising amount of living space within its tardis-esque design. The property is located in Claverack Red Mills in New York State and boasts some incredibly innovative features which soon helps you forgot that this home is made of shipping containers at all.
All Aboard
The architects behind this striking build were able to upcycle 40-foot shipping containers and turn them into a single-family home. Six shipping containers provide 1,920 square feet of living space on two levels and the way it has been thought out in terms of the space and interior design endeavours make it an incredibly welcoming, relaxing space which doesn’t feel cold or industrial in the slightest.
The home features an open layout with living room, dining and kitchen on the ground level and this is joined by two-bedroom suites on the level above, each of which is accessible by its own staircase, and both having full bathrooms and walk-in closets. C-Home from LOT-EK Architects really does squeeze every square inch out of these shipping containers to make sure the owners have a modern home that works for them.
Large glass walls are responsible for delivering cross light and ventilation to all areas of C-Home, with large decks to expand the open living space outdoors, into the back and front yards. An external stair provides access to the green roof and decking space which is ideally suited for relaxing and unwinding after a long day.
Unique Living Space
Located in a small town to the north of Manhattan, C-Home offers the owners a truly unique living space which isn’t too far away from the Big Apple if they want to make day trips there. The industrial nature of shipping containers has been entirely masked by a clever use of materials throughout the build and some impressive interior design efforts from the owners themselves.
If you like your architecture to have something about it, C-Home from LO-TEK definitely doesn’t disappoint. It has been carefully conceived from top to bottom to ensure the six shipping containers are used to their fullest and we’re mighty impressed with what the architects have been able to achieve here at Coolector HQ.
