Mexico is home to many majestic pieces of modern architecture and you can add another to that ever growing list with Casa NU from the architect, Chris Luce. This superb piece of contemporary design has 104m² of living space and boasts the sort of effortlessly cool, laid back vibe that we’re all about here at The Coolector. The chilled out visuals stem from the fact it has been designed as a refuge for surfers in the area of La Saladita beach.
Beautifully realised both inside and out, Casa NU can be found in La Saladita region of the country and was completed in 2021. This super cool piece of design was the material reinforcement of a friendship of years, which now offers a different and innovative experience for those who want a quiet refuge after enjoying the waves in this region of the Mexican Pacific. The layout of the different structures on this corner lot was acquired pretty much in the sam manner as those who take advantage of the best waves when being on the board with some spaces boasting large mango trees that provide cool shade over the green areas, projecting freshness and pleasing privacy from neighbouring buildings.
UNDERSTATED, RUSTIC INTERIORS
Inside of Casa NU from Chris Luce, a double-height layout was deployed. Within it, a loft was designed with a King Size bed occupying its surface, which is enhanced with storage space in the upper part, while the ground floor is where you’ll find the kitchen, living room, and a bathroom with a separate toilet and shower, allowing spaces for flexible use required when the owner hosts guests.
The client and the architect behind Casa NU wanted to make sure all the materials used in the finishes were honest and with a elegant ageing process and patina over time. The exposed concrete with slatted formwork really shows off the strength of the walls, as well as the polished concrete with brass joints on the floor, pinewood on doors and windows, and previously oxidised and varnished metallic elements that add a visual pop to proceedings.
All the details to equip the space of Casa NU have been carefully considered to make sure they don’t compromise the overall design and everything, both inside and out, has been chosen with care. The spaciousness and the sense of understated simplicity in the design and the wiring and hidden service facilities all come together to help this fantastic piece of architecture from Chris Luce achieve a unique combination of both luxury and comfort.
