Christopher Ward represents the new breed of watchmakers that have changed the landscape for affordable watch fans. A decade ago, there were few options when it came to entry level priced watches, now the choices are vast.
Having now been in the business for fifteen years, Christopher Ward is hardly a newcomer, but in the world of timekeeping they definitely have youth on their side. So, when we heard that the team over at Worn & Wound had linked up with renowned British watchmakers Christopher Ward, we here at Coolector HQ got pretty excited.
Brilliant Collaboration
The great thing about collaborations is that it results in something that wouldn’t normally be envisaged singlehandedly. By bringing together one area of expertise with a sprinkle of another can create a unique outcome. The C65 Sandstorm and Sandstorm Blackout Chronometers are the manifestation of two influential players in the timepiece world. Based upon Christopher Ward’s 38mm case and measuring 38 x 45.3 x 11.6mm, with 20mm lugs, both variations are perfectly sized as all day wearer.
The two variations are fairly contrasting in appearance, essentially they are the same, and offer 150 meters of water resistance, a sapphire crystal, solid steel caseback, and a Sellita SW200 automatic movement. The Sandstorm with its brushed metallic appearance is reminiscent of dial from something you’d see in a dignified sports car, with brief bursts of colour on the date display and seconds hand.
The Sandstorm Blackout offers a much lighter dove coloured dial against a black backdrop keeping those splashes of red that bring the face to life. The Blackout is more casual in appearance and has military hints that make it appear more functional and rugged.
Limited Numbers
C65 Sandstorm and Sandstorm Blackout Chronometers are limited to 200 and 100 units respectively so only a few dedicated enthusiasts will get the chance to own one of either variation.
There have been a number of new releases by Christopher Ward in recent months, but it’s this collaboration with retailer Worn & Wound that has caught the eye of the team here at Coolector HQ. It’s no mean feat creating two wildly different watches that are almost identical in all but appearance, and that’s what sets this duo apart.
