One’s workspace is a real reflection of their mentality so, if you’re anything like us here at Coolector HQ, you’ll want to fill said workspace with all sorts of cool bits and pieces that help your desk stand out from the crowd. Well, we’ve discovered one such item that we’re keen to get our hands on in the form of the Hyperion Tree from Clive Roddy which is a 1:826 scale model of the world’s tallest living tree.
Clive Roddy is no stranger to the pages of The Coolector and we featured his awesome Balloon Pin House previously and this Hyperion Tree is more of the same madcap awesomeness and we’re loving its uniqueness. The Clive Roddy Hyperion Tree has been crafted to conjure up a real sense of wonder whilst showcasing the unparalleled magnitude of this giant of the natural world.
Mother Nature’s Finest
The Hyperion Tree is a real sight to behold and one of those things that you really have to see to believe. All of its many intricacies and details have been captured within this cracking little piece of design from Clive Roddy and for those who want stand out pieces to decorate their home or workspace, this will certainly fit the bill. It is a carefully hand-crafted model which can be held in the palm of your hand and let you bask in what is one of the finest examples of the majesty of Mother Nature.
We love quirky little accessories to fill our workspace with at The Coolector and this Clive Roddy Hyperion Tree unquestionably falls into that bracket. Every one that is created is a handcrafted representation of the real thing and is painstakingly put together before being carefully enclosed in its own miniature glass casing. Every one is joined by its own tiny, not to mention to scale, human silhouette which is securely fastened to a separate weighted and tiered wooden base.
A backstory of the Hyperion Tree is too good not to be told and it was back in 2006 when two naturalists, Chris Atkins and Michael Taylor, came across a cluster of trees in California’s Redwood National Park that were loftier than any they had ever encountered previously. The tallest of which was measured at a astronomical 379.3 feet (115 metres) which, quite frankly, is an astounding height making it taller than the likes of Big Ben and the Statue of Liberty.
Old As Time
The glorious Hyperion Tree in the Redwood National Park is said to be between 600 and 800 years old and it’s still growing. It’s exact location remains closely guarded in order to protect it but if you want a piece of this incredible feat of nature represented on your own desk, this spiffing piece of design awesomeness from Clive Roddy gets our vote at The Coolector.
Wonderfully accurate and exceptionally detailed, the Hyperion Tree from Clive Roddy really is a great little accessory for any creative’s workspace. If you’re got a love of heading into the wild and want an accessory that showcases this fact in your day to day life, you know what you need to do.
