Whilst the nam of the brand doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue, the quality of the vehicle should be enough to overcome that foible. The Donkervoort D8 GTO-JD70 is billed as the first 2G super sports car and has been designed predominantly as a gift for the brand’s founder, Joop Donkervoort. It will be released commercially in extremely limited numbers of just 70 so, if you like what you see, make sure you don’t hang around.
The Donkervoort D8 GTO-JD70 boasts a mighty impressive performance out on the open road and they’ve managed to eke out 415bhp from the 2.5-litre, five-cylinder engine, and they’ve added their own new carbon-fibre Ex-Core technology and the ways you can choose to turn the JD70 into a very personal expression are nothing short of miraculous.
Astonishing Performance
The JD70 has become the world’s first 2G supercar, as it is capable of neck-stretching with TWICE the earth’s gravitational pull around corners. Put simply, this makes the JD70 a groundbreaker for the entire car industry. In order to stretch beyond 2G, Donkervoort had to update and improve their industry-best shock absorbers, and they upgraded to cutting-edge Nankang AR-1 tyres and they even added ultra-lightweight power steering as an option as well.
The Donkervoort D8 GTO-JD70 boasts exceptional speed and is capable of getting up to 200km/h in just 8 seconds. Its five-cylinder, turbocharged engine is cleaner than ever, with just 191 grams/km of CO2 emissions, and even stronger at low revs and this allowed the car maker to return the side-pipe exhaust system and give the JD70 a taller final-drive ratio (which gives it a higher top speed and calmer cruising) without losing any acceleration.
More than 95 percent of the car’s bodywork is crafted from carbon-fibre, and they have even left it visible for everybody to see. The JD70 includes plenty of Donkervoort’s patented EX-CORE® carbon-fiber technology, which makes it astonishingly light and strong. We’ve also given the JD70 new carbon-fibre seats to go with the quick-release steering wheel and the light, race-bred digital instrument cluster.
What Lies Beneath
The JD70’s 2480cc five-cylinder turbo motor has won nine consecutive International Engine of the Year awards in its class so, needless to say, it’s a high quality performer. There’s undoubtedly a lot of power under the hood, with 415bhp, but the trick is in the torque. It’s so robust everywhere – with the peak hitting as low as 1750rpm and holding on until 6350rpm – that they’ve fitted the JD70 with taller final gearing without losing any acceleration.
Just as impressive on the inside, the Donkervoort D8 GTO-JD70 has carbon-fibre seats to go with the quick-release steering wheel and the light, race-bred digital instrument cluster and electric power steering and a colour digital display screen, complete with lap timing and Wifi data logging. Needless to say this isn’t your average vehicle and with just 70 being released they won’t be around for long.
