When you’re thinking of buying a property, chances are a house boat might not feature too highly in your thought process but that’s probably because you haven’t seen anything quite as stylish and well conceived as the Dusky Parakeet House Boat which was designed by 31/44 Architects and can be yours for £290,000 which, considering it’s London postcode, makes it somewhat of a steal.
The Dusky Parakeet House Boat from 31/44 Architects is located in St. Katharine Docks Marina, London, which is in the East of the central close to plenty of transport links and amenities so the fact you can get your hands on this for under £300k is a pretty impressive feat. Impeccably well designed and thought out by the architects, this great looking house boat really does make the most of the space it has and offers luxury one bedroom living in the heart of London.
Breathtaking Boat Living
Needless to say, not all house boats are as luxurious as the Dusky Parakeet from 31/44 Architects and it offers a space that is refined and yet tranquil and relaxing. It is currently moored in St. Katharine Docks – a heartbeat from the City, the Thames and numerous underground train stations. It would be nigh on impossible to find an apartment of this calibre, in this location, at this affordable price, but Dusky Parakeet manages to deliver all three. She would make a perfect pied-à-terre, moveable home or office.
31/44 Architects are an award winning studio and this is something which shines through with the compelling design and finish of the Dusky Parakeet Boat House. The boat served as an excellent canvas for their work – everything within it is bespoke, and every fitting has been hand crafted from high end materials. It has been decorated with a understated, natural palette, ideally suited to its marina location. Boasting the sort of comfort and quality that you would expect from a high-end apartment, it’s hard not to be impressed.
Handmade joinery and flooring throughout the Dusky Parakeet House Boat consist of Douglas Fir, charcoal grey valchromat and tulipwood cladding for a striking aesthetic impact. With steps and seating which all hide storage units alongside a concealed Panasonic television, there is a clever use of space. Bespoke wall sconces and custom-made upholstery are evident throughout the boat. The handmade kitchen has been made from recycled materials by Smile Plastics – the doors and worktops were once yoghurt pots and even contain little flecks of silver from the lids.
Surprisingly Spacious
The Dusky Parakeet House Boat measures 60ft x 12ft and it is a wide beam canal boat which provides an unexpected amount of living space when you head below deck. Boasting a fully insulated hull, double glazing and underfloor heating – which makes sure the boat stays warm, even in the depths of winter. It has a brand new Canaline diesel engine (300l) and an electric bow thruster (with steering assist) giving you everything you need to get moving, should you wish to. There’s a 500 litre water storage tank and ultra-efficient solar panels.
Capable of being 100% off-grid should you so desire, the Dusky Parakeet House Boat is sure to appeal to a lot of potential purchasers – particularly given its prime mooring and sub-£300k price tag. If you’re looking for a new home a little out of the ordinary but no less luxurious, this definitely sits up there with the best of them in our opinion here at Coolector HQ.
