Farer Charlton Green GMT: A World of Colour on Your Wrist

Farer has a knack for creating watches that are both functional and visually captivating, and their latest offering, the Charlton Green GMT, is no exception. This timepiece is a vibrant exploration of colour and design, offering a unique take on the classic GMT complication. It’s a watch that’s as at home exploring new time zones as it is making a statement on the wrist.

The Charlton Green GMT Watch from Farer (£1325) immediately grabs attention with its distinctive colour palette. The rotating bezel, featuring a two-tone insert in cream and a rich Persian green, sets the stage for the colourful display on the dial. This unusual combination creates a captivating contrast, giving the watch a unique personality.

The handset is where Farer truly embraces colour. The hour and minute hands are rendered in a deep navy blue and filled with ice-blue X1 Super-LumiNova for excellent legibility in low-light conditions. The seconds hand, a warm “cafe au lait” brown with the signature Farer ‘A’ in yellow at its tip, adds a touch of playful detail. The GMT hand, crucial for tracking a second time zone, is a regal purple with an orange lumed tip. This careful selection of contrasting colours ensures that each hand is easily distinguishable, enhancing the watch’s functionality.

The cream dial features a subtle honeycomb pattern, adding a touch of texture and visual interest. White hour markers, filled with the same ice-blue Super-LumiNova as the hands, are mounted on this textured backdrop, ensuring clear timekeeping. The printed navy blue minute track, punctuated by orange markers at 5-minute intervals, further enhances the dial’s legibility and adds another pop of colour.

The 38mm stainless steel case, featuring the distinctive “ski slope” lugs first introduced in the Chrono-Contempo collection, provides a comfortable and stylish housing for the colourful dial. The polished chamfers on the brushed case sides add a touch of refinement. These “ski slope” lugs, with their upward curve, not only look distinctive but also contribute to the watch’s comfortable fit on the wrist.

Powering the Charlton is the reliable Swiss-made Sellita SW330-2 automatic movement. This “Top Grade” version of the SW330 has been adjusted for accuracy in five positions, ensuring precise timekeeping. The movement beats at a smooth 28,800 bph (4Hz), boasts 25 jewels, and offers a 56-hour power reserve. With 200m of water resistance, a screw-down crown, and a boxed sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating, the Farer Charlton Green GMT is a robust and stylish companion for any adventure, whether it’s exploring a new city or simply navigating the daily grind.   Sources and related content
