The world of watchmaking is an incredibly competitive one and it takes an awful lot to stand out from the competition, particularly for watchmakers who are relatively new to the market and perhaps don’t have the heritage of the more established workshops. Well, one UK watchmaker by the name of Farer have wasted no time whatsoever in establishing a name for themselves in the industry and it is because of exemplary timepieces like the Hecla Automatic Watch that they are already so well regarded.
Immensely cool and robust, the Farer Hecla Automatic Watch is a striking aqua compressor with a stunning, floating deep blue dial that immediately catches the eye. Costing a decidedly reasonable £1095, each Hecla Automatic Watch comes with both a natural rubber strap and 316L steel bracelet so you can decide which look you want to go with on any given day. For anyone looking for an uncompromising timepiece that doesn’t break the bank, this one certainly be one of our first picks here at The Coolector.
Stunning Design
The stand out feature of the Farer Hecla Automatic Watch is the deep blue floating central dial which has a design which is made up of three layers. The raised oversized polished steel numerals at 12, 3, 6 and 9 sit on the central dial, infilled with pure white Super-LumiNova and a fantastically micro engraved with Farer’s signature submersible wave design. As part of this floating dial you’ll find cut-in baton hour markers which showcase a halo plate of pure white Super-LumiNova, delivering a high-clarity dial view even in limited lighting.
Surrounding the central dial of the Farer Hecla Automatic Watch is the unidirectional internal rotating bezel in Astronaut silver, which is engraved with full hour minute markings with a black infill. Atop the floating you’ll find the Farer oversized dive hands which have split minute markings for rapid identification, and are outlined in beacon red polished steel and infilled with pure white Super-LumiNova. To finish things off, the primary colour palette of the Hecla, the polished steel sweep second hand is tipped with highlighter yellow Super-LumiNova, which ensures a vibrant contrast with the dial, either day or night.
Taking its name from HMS Hecla, a Royal Navy bomb vessel launched in 1815, this exceptional timepiece from Farer is right up our street here at The Coolector. Like many other British bomb vessels, she was named after a volcano, in this case Hekla in Iceland. She originally served at the Bombardment of Algiers, in a bid to end the slavery practices of Omar Agha. Then, in 1819, the ship was amended to work as an Arctic exploration ship, and made three sojourns in search of the icy Northwest Passage and one, sadly failed, attempt on the North Pole, before eventually being bought out of service in 1827.
Crafted To Last
It is Farer’s overriding objective to create products that really do stand the test of time and the Farer Hecla Automatic Watch is a great example of how they achieve it. They make their watches with a meticulous attention to detail in London before they are then handmade, without compromise in Switzerland. That’s why they are able to offer a 60-month / 5-year movement guarantee on all Farer watch movements – so, in the unlikely event that something does go wrong, then they’ll be happy to repair or replace it – which gives you added peace of mind.
The Farer Hecla Automatic Watch is certainly one of the brand’s most striking to date and we’re big fans of the nautical style aesthetic here at Coolector HQ. UK watchmakers, Farer, are one of the best new brands around right now and we always keep our beady eye on any new releases that they have because you can rest assured that they’re going to be exemplary in nature and the Hecla Automatic is no exception.
