Being afforded amazing views is something that we always look for when it comes to the architecture projects we cover here on the pages of The Coolector and that’s definitely something which can be applied to the superb looking Fauntleroy Residence from Seattle based studio, Heliotrope. They completed this cedar-clad family home that really makes the most of the views of the Puget Sound and has great privacy from the street.
Fauntleroy Residence from Heliotrope is on a waterfront site in Seattle, with westward views of the glorious Puget Sound and Olympic Mountains – so the views are pretty much on point. A ferry terminal is just a short distance away for when the owners want to head on some water based adventures. Totalling 3,978 square feet (370 square metres) of living space, the three-storey home was designed for a husband and wife with two children.
The site is trapezoidal in shape, with a “panhandle” that juts out toward the beach. The west side of Fauntleroy Residence faces the sea, while the eastern side is positioned along an bustling street. The overriding objective of this exceptional build was to create a home that would allow the owners to step away from the busy world of work and school to family connections and, from what we can see, it is mission well and truly accomplished.
Most of the front yard is positioned behind a privacy fence. The parts of the house that are visible to the street are opaque, which makes sure there is privacy and reinforces the notion of the home being an oasis. On the upper level, a glazed box holds an outdoor shower and in lowest part of the home – which opens out toward the beach – you’ll find a media room, bar, wine cellar, yoga studio sauna and bathroom. This level also offers storage for paddle boards and a fire pit.
