If a lot makes its way into RM Sotheby’s “Sealed” auction, you know it’s something a little bit special and certainly not your average vehicle and that’s something that is definitely true of this, quite frankly, jaw-dropping Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa. Going up for sale in RM Sotheby’s Detroit auction in a couple of weeks, this majestic machine is described as being the “most beautiful Ferrari ever built” and it’s hard to argue.
The Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa from RM Sotheby’s is a 250 “Pontoon Fendered” Testa Rossa which is about as unique as it gets. Completed in early 1958, chassis no. 0738 TR is one of a mere 19 special examples bodied by the world-renowned Italian coachbuilder Sergio Scaglietti and the sense of luxury it exudes is positively off the charts. Put up for sale from a prominent collection for the first time in over a decade, this represents a rare opportunity to acquire one of Maranello’s all-time greats.
Absolutely stunning to look at, the “Pontoon Fendered” Testa Rossa is widely considered to be one of the most breathtaking body designs ever created and it is incredibly rare to be presented with the opportunity to own one of these mesmerising machines. In addition to looking amazing, the Testa Rossa also performed impeccably and it was the most successful sports racing car in Ferrari’s illustrious history, securing four World Championships and four overall victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans from 1958 to 1962.
It was fully restored by Ferrari Classiche in 2013 so it is presented in a truly immaculate condition that will ensure that it will take pride of place in any luxury car collector’s lineup. This glorious example is one of the very few Testa Rossas to be Red Book certified as retaining both its matching-numbers engine and gearbox. Like what you see? Make sure you don’t miss the RM Sotheby’s Detroit auction.
