If you grew up in the 80s and 90s as we did here at Coolector HQ then chances are one of the toys of choice would have been a Scaletrix race track but we’re willing to wage that (unless you had Richie Rich levels of wealth) it wasn’t as amazing as this Formula 1 Slot Car Racetrack which is going under the hammer with RM Sotheby’s for the rather lofty price of $20-30k. This is obviously a lot to pay but when you look at the attention to detail that has gone into its creation then it definitely starts to make more sense.

The Formula 1 Slot Car Racetrack from RM Sotheby’s is, of course, for someone serious about their motor racing toys and with considerably deep pockets given the $20-30k estimate that is has on it (though it is being offered without reserve so there’s a chance of picking up a bargain perhaps). It will be going in to the Abu Dhabi auction at the end of this month and the proceeds from its sale will benefit the Reaching the Last Mile Fund, which is inspired by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Bespoke Design

Needless to say, this isn’t the sort of product that you’ll come across every day in your local store and it has been custom-built by Slot Mods Raceways for the Formula 1 Paddock Club. This bespoke and handcrafted 1:32 scale slot car racetrack will definitely appeal to F1 fans of all ages and delivers the sort of racing performance we had to imagine as children on our decidedly less glamorous and aesthetically accurate Scaletrix race tracks.

The Formula 1 Slot Car Racetrack from RM Sotheby’s ($20-30k) was commissioned by Formula 1 and crafted by Slot Mods Raceways, who are based in Detroit, Michigan, U.S.A. Made out of wood to 1:32 scale to an original design, it was then shipped to every Formula 1 Grand Prix during the 2018 season and used by patrons of the Formula 1 Paddock Club. It has been designed for two cars to be used and raced against each other at one time and the track has built-in electronic lap timing and on-track cameras, raising the stakes and adding a little extra competitive edge to proceedings.

Slot Mods are definitely one of the best in the business and they have made tracks for both corporations and private individuals over the last ten years, including Mercedes-Benz, Ford, and Toyota. These tracks are hand crafted in nearly every regard which makes each track a real labour of love and they take around three to six months to complete. Its features, down to hand-painted race fans, bespoke buildings, and foliage lining the circuit, are certainly a sight to behold. The track can be disassembled into two modular sections for easy shipment, and Slot Mods can be further commissioned to provide after-sales service or installation should it be required.

Charitable Cause

There is hope that this lot with RM Sotheby’s will make a pretty penny because proceeds from this sale will benefit the Reaching the Last Mile Fund, inspired by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed’s global health campaign to eradicate preventable diseases, which is a joint initiative with the Bill Gates Foundation. His Highness is dedicated to eradicating preventable diseases affecting the world’s poorest and most vulnerable communities in the developing world, and His Highness has previously donated more than $250,000,000 since 2010.
