There are few vehicles more iconic than the MINI and we’re especially big fans of the old-school ones here at Coolector HQ. Needless to say, those from the 70s are ripe for bringing into the 21st century and there are few better examples of this than this stunning Gildred Racing Tesla Powered 300-HP 1971 MINI.
Gildred Racing, a renowned name in the automotive world for its high-performance MINI Super Cooper custom builds, is understandably proud to announce the first-ever Gildred Racing Super Cooper EV. This 300-hp 1971 MINI is purpose-built to deliver high performance in a classically cool, no-compromises package with ample range and a retro-modern aesthetic that we’re definitely digging here at The Coolector.
The Gildred Racing Super Cooper EV is a sustainable and vintage-styled MINI that delivers modern power and performance. It incorporates a Tesla small drive unit, taken from a dual motor Model S or X, capable of nearly 300 hp and 250 lbs. of torque. The high-voltage system was developed by Electric Classic Cars, the world’s premier gasoline-to-electric conversion company so you know it’s not going to let you down when it comes to its performance out on the open road.
Gildred Racing Super Cooper EVs are classic MINIs that have been electrified and enhanced with modern conveniences, such as A/C, heating, and premium audio systems. Each Super Cooper EV is customised to the client’s specifications, so they can create their own unique classic MINI unique to them. Gildred Racing starts by restoring a vintage MINI, then adapts it to fit the client’s driving style and preferences, taking into account factors such as acceleration, maximum throttle, and regenerative braking.
This first new Super Cooper EV from Gildred Racing is a classic 1971 Leyland MINI that has been painstakingly restored and updated. It is now electric and has a striking Riviera Blue exterior with a grey roof and a houndstooth cream and light grey fabric interior. The interior cabin has been kept in keeping with and authentic to the 1970s, with classic Smiths style instruments adorning the quintessential centre binnacle and open dash design.
