The Farallon Islands that inspire the watch are twenty-seven nautical miles off the coast of San Francisco and rise out of the fog of the Pacific. The islands are uninhabitable, despite man’s best efforts throughout history and the nickname “devil’s teeth” was garnered not from the islands’ shape but from what patrols the dark and bitterly cold waters surrounding their razor-sharp shoals.

Paying homage to this harsh, wind-battered hunk of rock, which is now off-limits to man, but home to a thriving population of great white sharks, who’ve hunted these waters with impunity since the beginning of time, Huckberry picked a dark blue dial, pierced only at its ‘surface’ at 12:00 by light, to be reflective of the islands’ perch at the edge of the Continental Slope before it drops away to depths exceeding 11,000 feet.
