So far as artwork is concerned, we’ve all got our own tastes and things that we like and, here at Coolector HQ, we typically gravitate towards incredible pieces like these animated GIFs from supremely talented artist, Leland Foster. If you’ve got a thing for ever so slightly unsettling pieces of artwork, then you’ll join us in loving these wonderfully conceived pieces that just have a hint of movement that makes them all the more jarring to view.
Leland Foster is an artist and graphic designer living/working in Brooklyn, New York, and his amazing collection of artwork may be small but it is certainly perfectly formed and the animated element to them literally adds a whole new dimension in terms of engagement and aesthetic appeal.
Subtle Movement
The artwork of Leland Foster seemingly documents relatively mundane things such as a car idling at a petrol station or a pan on a stove but the fact there is that hint of movement to the images makes them, in our opinion at least, slightly ominous. We’re loving the way in which Foster has brought his artwork to life and it’s great to see new forms of design like this cropping up.
Foster’s style of the work is very much in keeping with what we favour here at Coolector HQ – along the same sorts of lines of Simon Stalenhag and Scott Listfield and for those who are fans of their work, there is much to appreciate here too. There is clearly a lot of interest in the work of Foster as it has been put on display extensively both in the United States and throughout Europe, at locations that include the Smithsonian in Washington DC, and the State Russian Museum in St. Petersburg.
Impossible to tear your eyes away from, the work of Leland Foster is the sort of thing where you expect something to suddenly pop up and frighten you but, in actuality, this doesn’t happen which, perhaps, makes the work even more unnerving as a result. We’re loving Foster’s work here at Coolector HQ and we dare say there will be plenty of other art enthusiasts out there equally as enamoured.
Lack of Life
Perhaps what is most unsettling about the artwork of Leland Foster is the fact that none of the pieces that he has crafted have any people in them, instead looking like something apocalyptic has occurred and left no one behind. Needless to say, we’ve got our fingers well and truly crossed that Foster will be regularly adding to his collection of artwork in 2017 and we can’t wait to see what else the talented chap comes up with.
For anyone who is a fan of unsettling artwork with perhaps an apocalyptic vibe, this will fit the bill rather nicely and maybe don’t stare at the images for too long just in case that frightening object or figure does pop up in the end.
