Lexus and luxury go hand in hand and, as you’re likely aware, the car market is increasingly becoming focused on electric vehicles and if you want to test the waters with a hybrid version first and want something overflowing with luxurious features and a pleasure to drive, we definitely recommend the Lexus RX 450h+ here at The Coolector as we were recently lucky enough to take it for a spin for a few days.
The Lexus RX 450h+ is on its fifth generation now and there are improvements each time a new version emerges from the production line. It boasts immense confidence on the open road and the all-new ‘spindle body’ design delivers improved grille integration that expresses a sense of electrified power and low centre of gravity.
This is one sleek-looking machine in our opinion and doesn’t feel bulky as a lot of SUVs tend to. It has compact headlights, air intakes and a wider track further consolidating the stable, bold aesthetic of this magnificent steed. As impressive on the inside as on the outside, the Lexus RX 450h+ has a Tazuna design in the cockpit.
The Lexus Tazuna design concept takes its name from the Japanese word for ‘reins of a horse’, and it focuses upon direct yet intuitive controls that will make any trip, big or small, a pleasure. Information sources such as the 14″ multimedia screen, multi-information display and Head-Up Display are grouped close together so information can be gleaned without having to move your eyes too far from the road.
One of the standout features of the RX 450H+’s interior is the large touch screen on the centre console. It is perfectly positioned for relaxing interaction while driving and the 14” High Definition touchscreen is one of the largest available and allows access to information such as navigation, audio and climate control effortlessly and intuitively. In addition, you can charge compatible smartphones or other electronic devices using the inductive wireless battery charger. 50% faster than before, the RX also has 6 USB sockets well positioned within the cabin for both front and rear seat occupants.
It is built on Lexus’ GA-K platform which extends the wheelbase integrating additional cross members and braces to increase the vehicle’s rigidity. This extra strength has allowed Lexus engineers to tune the suspension more accurately, improving both performance and comfort. This new platform is 90 kg lighter and has a lower centre of gravity. Long story short, if you’re after a comfortable ride, the RX 450h+ isn’t going to let you down.
