Innovation is something on which we are very keen here at The Coolector and, I think its fair to say, it’s been some time since we saw something as genuinely innovative and impressive as this rather fantastical lamp that goes by the name Lumio.
As you can see from the, dare I say “enlightening” (I do), video above, the Lumio Lamp looks set to revolutionise the way in which we approach lighting in our homes (and indeed outside them) with its stunning visual appeal and high level of portability. The Lumio is the invention of San Francisco based Max Gunawan who, as an architect, saw an opportunity to reinvent the concept of lighting by introducing the modern forms and clean lines he uses in his day to day blueprints and create a genuinely astounding, modern lighting feature that is quite unlike anything else on the market.
Put into simple terms, the Lumio is a lamp which unfolds from a book and illuminates as you open it. It is the technology inherent within the Lumio that really sets it apart – the jaw-dropping lighting effect upon opening the book is achieved via durable water resistant Tyvek “pages” containing high performing LED lighting. Safe to say, the result of this is nothing short of mesmerising.
The Lumio is incredibly lightweight (tipping the scales at a mere 0.5KG) and with an average battery life of 8 hours, it will be lighting up your life throughout the day because, such is its level of portability (it’s essentially just a book, remember), you will likely tuck it away in your bag when you head to work for the day because, after all, there’s no accounting for when light might come in handy. Check out the Lumio in action below:
You can’t help but be bowled over by the simple pleasure of unleashing light from the pages of a book and the Lumio doesn’t do things by half – it is crafted from environmentally friendly materials and is purpose built for modern living. We big fans of the piece over at The Coolector and we tip our cap to Gunawan for his highly inventive and superbly designed offering to the world.
To paraphrase, errrrrrrm God, “Let there be light…”
