Mammoth Overland Tall Boy Off-Road Trailer

We’re very much in an outdoor adventure frame of mind right now here at Coolector HQ and that’s why we’ve had our heads turned by the latest release from the guys at Mammoth Overland – the aptly-named, Tall Boy Off-Road Trailer. Standing nine feet tall, weighing 2,900 lbs, and offering 22 inches of ground clearance, the all-aluminum Tall Boy is the highest and most rugged off-road camper trailer in its class.

With prices starting at a thoroughly reasonable $72,000, the Tall Boy Off-Road Trailer from Mammoth Overland is available for pre-ordering now with deliveries expected Q4 2024. Following in the footsteps of Mammoth Overland’s HV and ELE trailers, the construction of the Tall Boy began with an aircraft-grade all-aluminium frame, designed around a king-size mattress—a specific requirement from the wife of Mammoth Overland’s founder, Taylor.

To enhance its functionality, designers incorporated two additional sleeping bunks, each capable of comfortably accommodating someone up to six feet two inches tall. When these bunks are not in use for sleeping, the top bunk can be folded down to form a couch-like seating area. The lower bunk features access to a cubby with an extra set of lighting controls. Underneath the king-sized bed, there is ample storage space. Designed with families in mind, the Tall Boy’s interior is equipped with numerous USB ports scattered throughout. Additionally, it includes a 24-inch LCD television, enhancing the overall comfort and convenience for family outings.

The bathroom in the Tall Boy is a highlight within its category, reflecting months of meticulous planning and multiple redesigns by the Mammoth Overland team before finalizing the design. This bathroom transports the comforts of home into the wilderness, featuring a shower, sink, and cassette toilet. Both the shower and sink are serviced by an instant hot water system, drawing from the trailer’s substantial 50-gallon onboard water tank, ensuring warm water is always at the ready.

The kitchen and stairs of the Tall Boy are sheltered by a 270-degree 23 Zero awning. In keeping with the spirit of outdoor adventure, the designers chose to position the kitchen outside. The Tall Boy’s kitchen is equipped with a sink, stove, and a 42-quart fridge. While the kitchen is located outside, the pantry features a pass-through design, making it accessible from both inside the cabin and the exterior.

Tall Boy is designed to be more accommodating than the previous ELE trailer yet retains robust off-road capabilities. It operates on dual independent axles with 17-inch wheels outfitted in 33-inch tires, providing a remarkable 22 inches of ground clearance—significantly more than its closest competitor. Tall Boy is also equipped with not just one, but two full-size spare wheels and tires. Additional features include a front-mounted exterior molle panel and a ladder for roof access. The standard roof rack can support up to 1,000 pounds statically and 500 pounds dynamically, enhancing its utility and readiness for various outdoor adventures.
