Kickstarter is always one of our first ports of call when it comes to finding new watches and they are often particularly well stocked in the dive watch department and so it has proven once again with the rather excellent looking Marnaut Seascape Watch which is already going great guns on the crowdfunding platform as we speak. This unmistakable, twin crown 200m dive watch is ideally suited to lovers of the classic ‘Super Compressor’ style – which includes us here at Coolector HQ.
The Marnaut Seascape Watch on Kickstarter has a great introductory price of just £213 which is 30% off the intended retail price so it represents an impeccable timepiece at superb value for money. This is the second release from Marnaut and it ramps up the quality considerably and their truly unique design has continued with the 40mm twin crown Seascape 200M. It carries much of Marnaut’s distinct markings, as well as the best-in-class Automatic MIYOTA 9015 movement that is robust and reliable in equal measure.
Striking Design Details
Aesthetically superior, the Marnaut Seascape Watch on Kickstarter has an unmistakeable dial takes its design inspiration from the exoskeleton of the sea urchin, with its symmetrically raised indexes which is a tribute to Marnaut’s beginnings and core design ethos. The bold visuals are the result of infusing that design ethos and character with a supremely cool super compressor style diving watch.
Known as the “gentleman’s diver”, this iconic, twin crown design traces its roots back to the 1960s and effortlessly balances form and function. The upper crown rotates the bezel, while the bottom crown adjusts the time. The Marnaut Seascape Watch has another great reason to get behind it as they are giving $1000 to Ocean Conservancy from the profits of these watches which is a great cause to support as they explore and create science-based solutions for a healthier ocean, and for the wildlife and communities that depend on it.
The dial is the heart of the Marnaut Seascape and as mentioned, the aesthetic is inspired by sea urchins. There are more than 900 species of sea urchin spread across the length and breadth of the world’s oceans, and they are one of the longest living creatures on Earth. Its extraordinarily robust exoskeleton has inspired the texture and symmetry of the watchmaker’s one-of-a-kind, enamel-finished dial with raised indexes.
Robust Design & Build
Marnaut uses BGW9 C3, Super-LumiNova, which is known to be the world’s best lume from Switzerland. It is applied to all 34 metal indexes, the hands and the triangle marker on the inner bezel. The combination of Marnaut’s stunning dial and the Super-LumiNova create a eye-catching, symmetrical glow like no other watch on the market.
The Marnaut Seascape 200M has a scratch-proof, double domed sapphire with anti-reflective (AR) coating on the underside. With a gasket-fitted, screw-down casing, it is water resistant up to 200 meters which will be ideal for all your deep sea adventures. Make sure you don’t miss out on the bargain prices during the Kickstarter campaign.
