In the world of horology, there are some who dare to do things a little differently and, we think it’s fair to say, MB&F are unquestionably fall into this bracket with their often mind-blowingly bonkers watches but they’ve now turned their attention to desk clocks and, my God, is it awesome (but that might be mainly because we love robots so much here at Coolector HQ).
The awesomeness in question goes by the name of the MB&F Melchior Robot Desk Clock and, as you can see from the image above, it is no ordinary desk clock and is, in fact, one of the most fantastic pieces of design we’ve clapped eyes on so far in 2015. Designed to celebrate MB&F’s 10th anniversary, this spectacular construct is both an immeasurably striking kinetic robot and a 480-component mechanical table clock. The video and images below will do a more admirable job of showcasing why we’ve fallen so hard for the Melchior:

Crafted from steel and brass and limited to a mere 99 pieces, you’ll need to move quickly if you want to make one of these spectacular, robotic desk clocks from MB&F your new means of measuring time (point to note: you’ll likely also need rather deep pockets). We love the design features of this mesmerising piece such as how Melchior’s steel upper arms rotate and his lower arms pivot up or down – excellent manoeuvrability for aiming his rocket launcher and Gatling gun.
In a wonderfully cool design feature, Melchior’s left arm detaches and doubles as the winding/setting key for the movement itself. A stunning piece of craftsmanship and one that is positively dripping in quirkiness. We love it.
