When finding brands that offer the sort of quality that make them your go-to whenever you need new apparel, it’s always likely that there’s a tangible reason for the case. With Mission Workshop, it is the immeasurable quality of the design and craftsmanship of their wares that really does help to set them apart from the competition and this is admirably illustrated with the Mission Workshop The Watchman Jacket.
Priced at £635, The Watchman Jacket from Mission Workshop has certainly got a lofty price tag but the quality it boasts helps to soften this financial blow. This cracking piece of outerwear from the San Francisco based brand is billed as the warmest coat that they’ve ever made so if you find yourself in need of a winter warmer, look no further. Crafted as part of the brand’s Advanced Projects® series, it combines multiple advanced technologies to keep you warm and comfortable throughout Fall, Winter, and early Spring.
Magnificent Performance
We always expect to see the finest materials in the apparel creations from Mission Workshop and The Watchman Jacket definitely doesn’t disappoint. It is the first garment in the world which makes use of PrimaLoft® Gold insulation with Cross Core™ and this combination is responsible for the wonderfully warming capabilities of this impeccable piece of outerwear. This insulation contains Aerogel, which is one of the lightest materials on earth and often called “solid air.”
The Watchman Jacket from Mission Workshop (£635) represents a major leap forward in insulation technology with a warmth-to-weight ratio 52% higher than standard PrimaLoft Gold so, as you can see, it is always beginning to justify the high price tag. The exterior of the jacket is crafted from a refined lightweight 4-way-stretch textile which has been made especially for Mission Workshop by Mectex M.I.S. in Como, Italy, and there is a tangible sense of quality as a result.
It features a matte finish and soft hand with next-generation “Dynamic Durable Water-Repellent” (D.DWR) coating which means that it is perfect for days of drizzle and light rain. D.DWR was originally developed for Olympic swimmers to keep their suits from absorbing water weight during competition, and lasts up to twice as long as traditional DWR finishes. The Watchman Jacket from Mission Workshop has a stealthy, understated aesthetic which makes it visually versatile enough to give with more or less any style persuasion.
Year Round Excellence
The Mission Workshop The Watchman Jacket is fully lined with 37.5® ultra-high-performance moisture management textile which manages breathability and moisture levels inside the coat and prevents overheating due to increased activity or a rise in ambient temperature. Some of the more striking details of the jacket include an adjustable zip-off hood, low-profile chest pocket, two hand pockets, interior zippered pocket with media port, interior cargo pocket, YKK weatherproof zippers, Italian Riri snaps, and intricate design detailing throughout.
It is a 2/3-length coat which has been designed to be long enough to provide extra warmth on cold days, but not so long that it becomes heavy and cumbersome on those warmer days of the year. The Watchman is designed to be layered with as little as a t-shirt or as much as a woven shirt and sweater for temperatures roughly ranging from 20°F (-7°C) to 55°F (13°C). If you’re after an all-rounder piece of outerwear in 2019, this will fit the bill.
