Oris are rapidly becoming one of our favourite watchmakers here at Coolector HQ and they are achieving this accolade as a result of so regularly releasing awesome looking timepieces. The latest to have captured our attention is the superb looking Oris Big Crown x Cervo Volante Watch which is available to purchase from Worn & Wound’s WindUp Store. This classy looking timepiece has a decidedly traditional design aesthetic we’re big fans of and if you’re after an affordable, effortlessly cool luxury watch for your wrist in 2022, this has to be a prime contender.
The Oris Big Crown x Cervo Volante Watch retails for $2k which is a fair price for such an accomplished and eye-catching timepiece in our opinion. This devilishly dapper watch from Oris showcases everything that is great about the watchmaker. Few brands can boast a history of making pilot’s watches that dates back as far back as 1910 but Oris is one of them. This Big Crown offering pays homage to this early era by pairing a classical complication with vintage typography, and a coin-edge bezel case. What’s not to like?
OLD SCHOOL COOL
Perfectly straddling the line between a refined casual timepiece and vintage-inspired sports watch, the Big Crown x Cervo Volante has a presence and aesthetic impact that is unique amongst watches currently on the market. It boasts a 38mm case with mixed brushed and polished surfaces which makes this a modern take on a vintage aesthetic. The beautiful finishing is set off by the rounded, coin-edge bezel, which speaks strongly to early 20th-century pilot’s timepieces that we all know and love. In the same vain, the cathedral hour and minute hands add to the antique charm.
The Oris Big Crown x Cervo Volante Watch ($2k) has a dial consisting of a series of indexes featuring a thin, elegant typeface. The namesake complication stands out along the outer edge of the dial, and delivers a unique and highly legible date presentation. This special release is a collaboration between Oris and Cervo Volante, a sustainable leather goods brand. Making use of deer leather skins that would otherwise be waste, Cervo Volante provides luxury leather goods that are low impact. Their skins are all vegetable-tanned, for a gorgeous visual impact that requires no toxic chemicals.
On the inside of the Big Crown x Cervo Volante, you’ll find the Oris 754 / Sellita SW 200 movement which is as robust and reliable as they come and is responsible for the high end performance of this exemplary timepiece. This is a 26-jewel Swiss-made automatic with 38-hour power reserve, pointer date, hacking seconds and a frequency of 28,800 bph. Visible through the display case back, the Oris 754 also features their signature red rotor. Classy in the extreme and a great addition to any luxury watch collector’s line up.
