After our short stay in Phnom Penh, the Cambodian capital city, it was inevitable that we would find ourselves gravitating towards the country’s other main draw, Siem Reap, via an unexpectedly tiny aeroplane and one of the quaintest airports we’ve encountered in all our years of travelling here at Coolector HQ. What, perhaps, wasn’t so expected is the luxurious welcome we’d received from our next destination, the unbelievably stylish, decadent and impossibly well located Park Hyatt Hotel, situated right in the heart of Siem Reap.
Despite it’s positioning in the thick of the action in Siem Reap, Cambodia’s second city and one a fraction of the size of Phnom Penh but no less buzzing, the minute you enter the lobby of the Park Hyatt Hotel it’s like entering a different world and the manic action of the motorbikes whizzing by outside dissipates instantly and you’re welcomed into a real lap of luxury that you’ll melt into straight away and won’t want to leave.
We’ve stay at a few Park Hyatt hotels in our time here at The Coolector but, truth be told, none can hold a candle to this extraordinary one in Siem Reap. As we witnessed throughout our stay in Cambodia, the people literally couldn’t be friendlier and from the minute we arrived it was clear that the hotel takes great pride in the calibre of their service and minutes after entering through the lobby and being given a delicious welcome drink, we’d received a complimentary upgrade and whisked to our room. Which, quite frankly, was on another level from a comfort and design point of view.
Luxury Personified
We had high expectations for the Park Hyatt Hotel in Siem Reap because, like most travellers, we carried out due diligence as it were and scouted it out online beforehand but this didn’t prepare us for just how breathtaking it was and it really didn’t feel like you were in the centre of a city when you get behind their front doors such was the level of serenity that exudes from every part of the hotel.
Unquestionably the most luxurious and high end hotel in the centre of Siem Reap, the Park Hyatt has 104 rooms and suites and these each boast an exceptional attention to detail in their design and finish and are filled with lovely little touches of Cambodian furniture and accessories – a fact that we certainly loved here at The Coolector. Each room and suite boasts a stunning Italian marble bathroom with bath tub and spacious rain shower and the comfort of the beds is right up there with the best of them in our opinion.
Whilst the hotel is undeniably big (by Siem Reap standards at least), it has a real boutique feel to it such is the care and attention that has clearly gone into every element of the design and layout and for those of you heading to Siem Reap to explore the temples and want a spot of luxury after trekking through them, the Park Hyatt really does tick all of the right boxes. And, if you’re particularly achey after a day of exploring all the mesmerising sights and sounds of Siem Reap, the Park Hyatt’s brilliantly appointed spa, with seven treatment rooms, will come as a godsend.
With the Park Hyatt in Siem Reap, the good news just keeps on coming, most notably in the form of their two spectacular swimming pools, a small but perfectly formed lap pool on the ground floor and a truly stunning free form pool on the hotel’s first floor which is 37 square metres and patterned as a Southeast Asian lagoon, with eye-catching green tiles and surrounded by lush gardens and attentive waiters always on hand to provide a cocktail or two and a delicious array of pool snacks.
Brilliant Base
Siem Reap is far and away one of the best places we’ve visited here at Coolector HQ and part of our love of it likely stems from the fact our first experience of the city was at somewhere as exemplary, welcoming and comfortable as the Park Hyatt Hotel. Not only did it meet our expectations but far exceeded them in every way imaginable.
The Park Hyatt in Siem Reap is one of those hotels that lives long in the memory and you get the blues the minute you check out (fortunately for us, we had plenty more amazing times to come in Siem Reap) and for anyone who wants a hotel that will offer an unparalleled location for experiencing all that Siem Reap has to offer but also the perfect place to relax and unwind and simply do nothing, the Park Hyatt Hotel positively excels.
We couldn’t have asked for a better introduction to the delights of Siem Reap than the Park Hyatt Hotel and with staff who truly go that extra mile and one of the most wonderfully designed and decorated hotels we’ve seen in years of travelling, it is entirely impossible not to recommend this hotel to anyone who finds themselves in Cambodia’s second city now or in the future. An unforgettable hotel.
