Reflection House

Thailand is one of our favourite countries to visit here at The Coolector and the architecture always impresses our design sensibilities. A fine example of the sort of striking architecture to be discovered can be seen with Reflection House from AUN Design Studio.

Located in Ket Lhat Phrao, Reflection House has been designed for a man and his mother to live harmoniously and has features to suit their differing ages. The home is built on the plot of an existing house and the design intentionally reflects the memories the son and mother created over the years within the neighbourhood with the connection inside and outside the home.

The architects behind the building separated the entrance layout because of the different activities and lifestyles of the owners and lay the house in the middle to deliver an open-plan living space. There is a garden on both sides to provide abundant natural light and wind. The space is curated by separating those living there into two levels.

With the ground floor of Reflection House being mainly created for the mother’s own living compound, including a common area, such as a kitchen and dining room. The upstairs is planned as a private space for the son to relax and unwind.

The interior design of this fantastic property focuses on a few key pieces of furniture. Not only is this for the flexibility of the use, but also it is the owner’s requirement to keep costs in check. The architects have ensured the continuity of the interiors by exposing surfaces, walls, and ceilings, with bare mortar and painting the walls white only for the height range used by the homeowner.

To add an eye-catching dimension to the interiors, the owners can hang decorations from their everyday life, using the homeowner’s collection: paintings, chairs, lamps, hooks, clocks, and other works of art to create the stylish living spaces you see before you. Thailand has some of the coolest contemporary architecture out there and you can add Reflection House to that list.
