We’ve become pretty engrossed in a TV show called The Great Pottery Throw Down of late here at Coolector HQ so, it’s fair to say, when we came across this Uniek Portable Pottery Studio on Kickstarter, we inevitably sat up and took notice. Uniek’s Pottery Wheel Machine Set is a contemporary interpretation of the traditional wheels and has been purpose built to help you master the potter’s age-old art.
Available for the bargain price of just £51 during the Kickstarter campaign, the Uniek Portable Pottery Studio is great value for money and perfect for anyone just starting out in the world of pottery looking to learn the base skills before moving on to bigger wheels. It boasts a design aesthetic inspired by retro houseware design from the 1950s, just like the old fridge at your grandparents’ house. A durable coat of paint is applied while the casing is made of modern plastic to stay light.
SMALL BUT PERFECTLY FORMED
The Uniek is smaller than any common potter’s wheel courtesy of its all-new design and use of modern materials and components. Departing from traditional constructions, Uniek have designed it from the ground up incorporating contemporary high-torque motors and bearings for a robust and impressive performance. The result is a smaller and more capable drive, yet you can still create cups, dishes and vases with it.
The turning wheel on the Uniek Portable Pottery Studio (from £51) is interchangeable for two different sizes – namely, 45mm and 65mm – so you can make slightly bigger pieces should you so desire. It is extremely easy to keep clean and this is combined with care-free paint and fine finishing which means you can just wipe off most dirt and mess from the Uniek. For the tool box, you can clean the clay in the running water directly.
Uniek has internal 7000 mAh batteries that allow it to run non-stop for 4-6 hours which will be more than enough time to create your masterpiece. To avoid running out of battery in the middle of a section, a clear battery-level indicator is located on the body. Anti-slip rubber pad is installed at the bottom so it can be used on any surface. To allow easy cleaning away from home, all components of Uniek are coated with dirt-repellent coating. Want to get into pottery? This might be the perfect place to start.
