The main design element that really makes these watches stand out from the competition is the fact that they boast an engraved disc which is manufactured from the original Rolls-Royce Merlin engine casing of Spitfire P9427 which was recovered by the UK watchmakers from Poole Bay, Dorset. This breathtaking watch conveys the simplicity of the classic avionic dials witnessed in the Spitfire cockpit and will definitely appeal to those horology fans with a love of aviation history.

Housed in a precision billet machined vapour blasted case and contrasting black ZW DSL lugs, you’ll find a distinct black dial with period numerals and indexes, clearly defined avionics style hands, and a standout red sweep seconds hand. For the original version of the P9247, the classic dial is framed by an understated matte black bezel ring and the hands and dial are highlighted with SuperLuminova X1 luminous pigment for great low light visibility. The dial also references the date of Sergeant Pilot Zygmunt Klein’s dogfight above The Needles (28^th November 1940), and the longitude-latitude coordinates of Poole Bay where the Spitfire P9427 was discovered. The rear of this majestic watch showcases a disc of the original metal that Zero West recast and machined from the original Rolls-Royce Merlin engine of P9427.

First Class Components

As with all watches, the movement is one of most important features and the P9247 definitely doesn’t disappoint. It is powered by the stellar Swiss ETA 2824 automatic movement which makes sure it never misses a beat. Hand adjustment are carried out by a brass finished locking screw crown modelled on the joystick gun platform fire button, which is a feature once so familiar to those brave young RAF pilots during the Battle of Britain.

Priced at £2500, the P9247 represents an investment but it’s one worth making in our opinion because it is one of the classiest looking pilot watches we’ve seen in some time here at The Coolector. Each one is fitted with a ZW handmade vintage leather strap with contrasting stitching and an engraved black PVD buckle that finishes it off perfectly.
