Zodiac x Worn & Wound Olympos Military Watch

We’re all about the understated yet robust when it comes to watches here at The Coolector so you won’t be surprised to hear that we’ve got a pretty big soft spot for the recently released Zodiac x Worn & Wound Olympos Military Watch. Priced at $895, it’s certainly one of the most refined-looking timepieces you can get on your wrist for under $1k this spring.

The Zodiac x Worn & Wound Olympos Military Watch ($895) comes from a series originally created in 1961 – the Zodiac Olympos- which is a line of highly creative timepieces boasting a signature “manta ray” case. Unique to Zodiac, this stylish case design is asymmetrical across the horizontal axis of the watch, which creates the illusion of different length lugs above and below, and moves the crown off-centre to two o’clock.

This Olympos Military Worn & Wound Edition is a beefed-up iteration of the original design, based on a prototype that was made specifically for the British Navy. Coming in at 40mm (38mm at the bezel), it keeps the eye-catching “manta ray” shape, but with a generally more no-nonsense and uncompromising build, a brushed finish, and an enhanced water resistance of some 200m.

One of the first things you’ll notice is the dial that is pure classic military, with a railroad minute track around bold, lumed numerals. The hands are a true-mil style as well which adds to the overall legibility of the timepiece. It is available in two dial colours, both including two original, US-Made straps.

The first is a navy blue to black gradient with green lume, which is paired with a blue leather Model 2 Premium strap, and a special Admiralty Gray ADPT single pass with a sage keeper. The second version features a pale brown to tobacco burst with burnt, khaki lume. This version is paired with a matter whiskey brown Model 2 Premium strap.

Acting as the beating heart for the Olympos Military Worn & Wound Edition Watch is the STP 3-13 caliber. This Swiss-made automatic movement boasts 26-jewels, swan-neck regulator, hand-winding, hacking seconds, an impressive power reserve of 44hr, and a frequency of 28,800bph for a smooth sweeping seconds hand.
